YouTube sensation MrBeast, formally known as Jimmy Donaldson, addressed attendees at the Time100 Summit on 22 April 2026 in New York City, shortly after a civil lawsuit was filed against his company, Beast Industries, by a former employee. The lawsuit, brought forth by Lorrayne Mavromatis, alleges serious claims of sexual harassment and a toxic workplace environment.

Mavromatis’s complaint, submitted in a North Carolina federal court, claims she experienced sexual harassment from James Warren, the CEO of Beast Industries, who is also Donaldson’s cousin. In her allegations, she detailed instances of inappropriate remarks made by Warren and asserted that her treatment deviated markedly from that of her male colleagues. Amidst the claims, she recounted being demoted and ultimately dismissed after raising concerns regarding unacceptable behaviour at the firm.

In his discussion with TIME magazine’s editor-in-chief, Sam Jacobs, MrBeast was prompted to reflect on the increasing scrutiny surrounding the workplace culture at Beast Industries. He acknowledged the growth of the company, which now employs around 750 individuals, and admitted to having made amendments to its management as he sought to improve the organisational culture.
Donaldson observed, “I started this business when I was 11, so obviously, I didn’t know what that word meant back then. It’s obviously evolved over the lifetime of the company,” suggesting that his leadership style had matured alongside the company.
Mavromatis’s allegations detail a troubling experience during her tenure at the company, where she claims inappropriate meetings took place at Warren’s home, rather than in an office environment. It’s noted in her complaint that when she questioned the absence of Donaldson in meetings, Warren remarked that Donaldson was uncomfortable around “beautiful women.” These assertions have prompted strong rebuttals from Beast Industries, with representatives dismissing the claims as unfounded and characterising the lawsuit as an attempt to generate headlines.
The timing of the lawsuit coincides with ongoing conversations around workplace conduct, particularly in fast-growing firms. A spokesperson for Beast Industries stated that the firm was exploiting Donaldson’s diagnosed Crohn’s disease to seek financial gain from the lawsuit, which they described as “clout-chasing.”
Mavromatis, who was hired as Head of Instagram in August 2022, reportedly faced discrimination and retaliation after filing a formal complaint with the company’s human resources department, led at the time by Donaldson’s mother. She alleged that her claims were dismissed, leading to her being demoted and ultimately terminated following a medical leave after childbirth. According to the company, the restructuring that led to her dismissal impacted several roles, not just hers.
Throughout the ordeal, Mavromatis claimed that Beast Industries lacked adequate workplace policies, citing the absence of a conventional Employee Handbook. Instead, she alleges the company had a document titled “How to Succeed in MrBeast Production,” which included unprofessional statements. The company countered these claims, asserting that an employee handbook had been formally provided to Mavromatis, and offered evidence contrary to her assertions.
In addition, Mavromatis reported feeling disrespected based on her gender, stating she was often excluded from all-male meetings and subjected to demeaning requests that were not asked of her male colleagues. Such allegations have raised significant concerns about the work environment at Beast Industries, which has previously been scrutinised for workplace conduct.
In 2024, the company faced its own internal investigation that resulted in the dismissal of several staff members due to instances of harassment and misconduct. As a response to that investigation, Beast Industries had announced intentions to implement new policies, recruit experienced leadership, and establish methods for anonymous reporting of workplace issues.
The rapid expansion of Beast Industries has undoubtedly placed pressure on its leadership to foster a sustainable and respectful workplace culture. As the company continues to grow, the scrutiny over its practices is likely to intensify, particularly in light of the ongoing legal proceedings and public discourse surrounding workplace accountability.
As MrBeast and his team navigate the complexities presented by this lawsuit, the future of Beast Industries will likely depend on how effectively they address these allegations and the systemic issues highlighted by former employees. Despite MrBeast’s popularity and success, ensuring a safe and equitable working environment remains a critical challenge for the organisation.
