In a tragic event that has devastated the Winston-Salem community, two teenagers have died and several others were injured following an altercation that escalated into gunfire at Leinbach Park in North Carolina. This unfortunate incident occurred on Monday morning, April 20, as local authorities confirmed that the confrontation was premeditated and involved juveniles.

The Winston-Salem Police Department (WSPD) responded to reports of a fight at approximately 9:50 am, during which they received additional updates indicating that shots had been fired. Upon arriving at the scene, officers witnessed individuals fleeing the area and quickly identified the victims. Seventeen-year-old Erubey Romero Medina was found in the parking lot with a severe gunshot wound and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Another victim, sixteen-year-old Daniel Jimenez Millian, was discovered further inside the park, also succumbing to his injuries at the scene.
In total, seven individuals were struck by bullets during the confrontation, which reportedly involved teenagers aged between 14 and 19. Out of the injured, five were found in the parking lot with varied injuries, ranging from critical to minor. Due to the young ages of many of the victims, police have withheld the names of minors, while stating that they will also protect the identities of any involved adults pending further investigation.
Police Chief William H. Penn expressed his deep frustration over the tragic event, labelling it as senseless. “I feel like everyone else,” Chief Penn stated during a press conference. “I’m frustrated, I’m angry, I’m sad. This didn’t have to happen.” He urged the community to become actively involved in preventing such incidents by reporting any suspicious activities they might witness.
