Missing Grandmother, 82, Found Dead in Rural Area After Vanishing with Her Dog Nearly 2 Weeks Ago

A tragic conclusion has been reached in the case of Diane Cooper, an 82-year-old woman who was reported missing nearly two weeks ago, alongside her beloved dog, Halo. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) confirmed the discovery of Cooper’s body on Saturday, April 18, in a rural area of Grandview, Saskatchewan, close to Kindersley.

Cooper was last seen on the evening of April 6, when she was thought to be driving in the vicinity of Hoosier, Saskatchewan. Her car, a grey Toyota C-HR XLE, was located, prompting a concerted search operation. She was officially reported missing the following day after her family, concerned for her well-being, alerted the authorities.

The circumstances surrounding her death have been described as non-suspicious, according to multiple reports, including outlets like the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) and CTV News. Fortunately, her dog, Halo, was found alive, albeit in a weakened state, after the extensive search efforts.

Diane’s granddaughter, Zoe Cooper, shared the heartbreaking news through a dedicated social media page that was established to assist in locating her grandmother. In her message, Zoe expressed profound grief, stating, “Our grandma has unfortunately passed away. While this is not entirely unexpected, we are absolutely brokenhearted.”

The search for Cooper had included a variety of resources, with numerous RCMP detachments deployed to patrol the area where she was last seen. The police had also involved RCMP Air Services in both Alberta and Saskatchewan to aid in the quest for the missing woman. On April 13, authorities released a photograph of Cooper driving, as they urged the public to remain vigilant.

In her earlier updates, Zoe Cooper had shared her gratitude for the community’s support during an incredibly difficult period. “We are so deeply grateful to everyone who helped search, shared posts, and showed us kindness and support,” she noted, reflecting the appreciation felt by the family during this unprecedented challenge.

She reported that Halo was “skinny and completely exhausted” but otherwise seemed to be unharmed. Zoe expressed relief that Halo had survived, which she termed a “miracle,” amidst the tragedy of losing her grandmother.

Although the family is now faced with the grieving process, Zoe conveyed a sense of comfort in finally having answers. She stated, “We know her spirit was surrounded by so much care and compassion from all of you. We are truly beyond grateful for that.” Despite the heartache, Zoe remains thankful for the support received from the community throughout the search.
