Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida is set to undergo a significant transformation, with plans to replace the now-closed DinoLand USA with a new immersive area named Pueblo Esperanza, scheduled to open in 2027. This project aims to blend the enchanting elements of popular Disney franchises, specifically “Encanto” and “Indiana Jones,” within a vibrant rainforest-themed village.

The announcement follows the permanent closure of DinoLand in February. Since then, Disney has been actively preparing for this ambitious project, recently filing eight permits related to the development of Pueblo Esperanza. The fictional village, which translates to “Village of Hope” in Spanish, will feature architectural designs inspired by various South American cultures, enhancing the overall guest experience.

According to a recent report by WDWNT, guests will enter Pueblo Esperanza through a meticulously designed pathway that mimics a historical settlement nestled in the heart of a lush rainforest. Disney promises an engaging atmosphere that feels alive with stories and traditions, offering visitors a glimpse into a place rich in history and cultural nuances.
One of the highlights of the new area will be the Encanto-themed attraction, which will be Disney’s first ride based on the film. Set within the beloved Casita, this attraction will take place the day after Mirabel’s cousin, Antonio, receives his magical gift of communicating with animals. This unique narrative approach aims to enrich the enchanting world of “Encanto,” further captivating fans of the film.
The Indiana Jones attraction is also generating excitement among enthusiasts. Located at the site of the former DINOSAUR ride, this new adventure will unfold within a mysterious Maya temple. Disney has teased that this will be a fresh experience that stands apart from existing Indiana Jones attractions found worldwide, promising thrilling escapades for fans and new visitors alike.
In addition to these major rides, Disney Imagineering has plans for various other enhancements in the area. The former Boneyard entrance will welcome a wood-carved carousel, while the existing Restaurantosaurus site will be transformed into a hacienda-style dining establishment, reflecting the thematic aesthetic of Pueblo Esperanza. These additions aim to provide a holistic experience that complements the immersive nature of the village.
The revitalisation project also includes the introduction of a new meet-and-greet location, which will replace a previously existing retail space. Reports suggest that a former character location may also be refreshed to align with the new developments, enhancing fan interaction. The redesign is expected to culminate in a seamless entry point into Tropical Americas through an expanded gateway, while additional operational areas will be developed to support the new water features.
Josh D’Amaro, CEO of Disney Parks, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming Tropical Americas expansion, stating, “With Tropical Americas, we’re bringing huge projects to life for generations of fans.” His comments reflect a commitment to immersive storytelling, a hallmark of Disney’s approach for the past 70 years, as the company continues to innovate within its theme parks.
As the park prepares for this transformation, many fans and visitors are eagerly anticipating the opportunities for exploration and interaction that Pueblo Esperanza will offer. While the project is still in the initial stages, the vision set forth by Disney suggests an exciting new chapter for Animal Kingdom, one that will draw on the richness of storytelling and culture that has come to define the Disney experience.
Though Disney has not yet provided detailed public comment on some aspects of the expansion, the news of this major undertaking has already sparked significant interest within the community. As work begins on Pueblo Esperanza, guests to the Animal Kingdom can look forward to an innovative new land that celebrates beloved stories and characters in a breathtaking setting. The opening in 2027 promises to be a landmark event for the park and its visitors, potentially establishing itself as a must-see destination in the world of theme parks.
