In *Normal*, Odenkirk portrays Ulysses, a substitute sheriff in a small Midwestern town, who inadvertently uncovers a significant conspiracy following a bank robbery. The film marks a new chapter for Odenkirk as he delves further into action territory, a genre he has only recently embraced. Odenkirk, 63, explained to *PEOPLE* that his falls were genuine, taking place on both wet and greasy floors. “That’s actually me falling down,” he disclosed, emphasising the film’s comedic aspects. He described his preference for portraying action heroes who can be vulnerable, noting that these moments of him falling create a more relatable character who battles through physical adversities.
The actor reflected on the decision to include these slips in the final cut: “We kept it in because I like playing action heroes who are vulnerable and who fall down and get hurt.” Odenkirk believes this approach adds depth to the narrative, illustrating that real heroes struggle and must endure challenges to achieve their goals.
