Country music sensation Kelsea Ballerini is set to take on a dual role as both host and judge for the Amplify Your Ambitions Contest, presented by the digital financial institution SoFi. This initiative aims to support budding musicians, with a grand prize of $200,000 awarded to the top contender during an intimate concert in Nashville on June 4. Two additional prizes of $50,000 will also be awarded to runner-up participants.

The contest, which is open for submissions until April 30, invites artists from all genres to submit a video, a written essay detailing how they would utilise the funds, along with a performance clip. Ballerini expressed her excitement at being involved in this initiative, as she aims to not only act as a judge but also to inspire and uplift the contestants. “There’s nothing I love more than discovering new artists,” the 32-year-old star shared. “It makes me happy and inspires me. To be a part of this process is truly rewarding.”
Ballerini emphasised her role in the contest as one focused on encouragement rather than strict judgement. She expressed her admiration for those who dare to pursue music as a career, stating, “If they are brave and bold enough to choose music as their career, it shows they’re ambitious — and that itself is such a win.” The initiative is designed to enable artists to push their creative boundaries and develop their careers.
Reflecting on her early career, Ballerini recalled the challenges she faced as an emerging artist, revealing the importance a cash injection can have in facilitating success. During her initial attempts to break into the music industry, she struck a deal with her mother, who encouraged her to complete her education before fully committing to her musical aspirations. Ballerini recounted securing a modest publishing deal worth $18,000, which she described as a pivotal moment that led her to drop out of college.
“I looked at my mum and said, ‘Mom, I got my full-time job. It’s time to drop out,’” she remembered. The artist indicated that during that time, she faced numerous financial difficulties, even needing government housing to make ends meet. “I remember having just gotten into a car accident and using duct tape to cover the hole in my Jeep. It was a struggle, but I was determined to make it work.”
As the contest gears up, SoFi will be responsible for selecting three finalists, with Ballerini judging alongside Vivian Tu, the bank’s Chief of Financial Empowerment, and Grammy-winning songwriter Shane McAnally, who has collaborated closely with her in the past. McAnally is known for writing hits such as “The Other Girl” and “If You Go Down (I’m Goin’ Down Too)” alongside Ballerini.
As she readies herself for the judging panel, Ballerini is drawing inspiration from her previous experience as a coach on the television show The Voice. She intends to incorporate a philosophy of authenticity and self-confidence in her approach. “I always reminded my team that they should trust their instincts above all else,” she stated. “The best thing an artist can be is true to themselves.”
Ballerini’s commitment to nurturing new talent and investing in their creative journeys showcases her dedication to the music community. As she prepares to support the next generation of artists, she embodies the spirit of ambition and resilience that is often necessary in the competitive landscape of the music industry.
The Amplify Your Ambitions Contest represents a significant opportunity for aspiring musicians to gain recognition and financial support, potentially transforming their careers. With Ballerini’s experience and passion for the arts at the forefront, this contest promises to be a meaningful step towards amplifying the ambitions of countless emerging artists in Nashville and beyond.
