A man has been arrested in connection with a series of violent incidents that resulted in the deaths of two women and left another man in critical condition in the metro Atlanta area. The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Olaolukitan Adon Abel from Atlanta, faces multiple murder charges following a string of attacks that occurred in the early hours of Monday.

Authorities state that the violence commenced around 1 am on Monday, when DeKalb County police responded to reports of a shooting outside a Checkers fast-food restaurant on Wesley Chapel Road. Within the next hour, two separate incidents would unfold, culminating in a tragic sequence of events that has shocked the local community.
The first victim, an unidentified woman, was found critically injured after being shot multiple times and later succumbed to her wounds at a local hospital. This incident set the stage for what was to follow. Just before 2 am, police in Brookhaven responded to a shooting at Cherokee Plaza Shopping Center. Here, a 49-year-old man was reportedly attacked while he slept on a sidewalk outside a grocery store. According to Brookhaven Police Chief Brandon Gurley, the victim was shot multiple times from a vehicle in what appears to have been a completely random attack.
The violence reached its peak shortly before 7 am, when Lauren Bullis, a 40-year-old resident of DeKalb County, was brutally attacked while walking her dog. Police revealed that she was stabbed and shot near the intersection of Battle Forest Drive and Manassas Lane. Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Bullis’ tragic death has left her friends and family in mourning, with neighbours noting her fondness for walking her dog and her dedication to running and marathon events.
DeKalb County Police Chief Greg Padrick addressed the media, describing the series of events as a “very tragic day” for the community. He stated that investigators had connected the seemingly random acts of violence as part of the same ongoing investigation.
Within hours of the initial incidents, police utilised their camera network and a system of license plate readers to track Abel down. He was apprehended during a traffic stop in connection with the crimes. In addition to murder charges, Abel faces charges of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
The police efforts involved in capturing the suspect were significantly aided by a community initiative known as “Operation Plugged In.” This programme encourages residents and businesses in Brookhaven to share video surveillance footage with law enforcement, enhancing the police’s ability to respond quickly to incidents.

Tiffany Williams, a neighbour, recalled seeing the aftermath of Bullis’ attack, expressing sorrow that someone could no longer feel safe in their own neighbourhood.
While Abel awaits his court appearance, the community remains on edge, grappling with the aftermath of the violence that has claimed two lives and disrupted countless others in the area. It remains unclear whether Abel has secured legal representation that could comment on his behalf regarding the allegations.
