In a bid to support Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employees affected by the recent government shutdown, American Dream mall in East Rutherford, New Jersey, has initiated a programme providing complimentary tickets to its indoor theme parks. The initiative, dubbed “Heroes of the Dream,” aims to express appreciation for the dedicated service of TSA workers during a challenging time.
Between April 20 and 24, TSA agents stationed at regional airports in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania will be eligible to receive a four-pack of free tickets. These tickets grant access to either the Nickelodeon Universe Theme Park or the DreamWorks Water Park housed within the expansive mall. The tickets can be acquired through the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Local 2222, which represents the agents in the region.
American Dream mall’s CEO, Don Ghermezian, emphasised the importance of recognising the sacrifices made by TSA workers, who have continued their duties even when their pay was interrupted. “We owe an incredible debt of gratitude to TSA agents,” Ghermezian stated. He added, “Many have made real personal sacrifices, even working without pay, to keep the rest of us safe. That kind of commitment defines true service.”
The mall’s donation comes against the backdrop of a partial government shutdown that began on February 14, 2026, after Congress failed to approve a funding measure for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which includes the TSA. As a result, many TSA employees found themselves working without pay for extended periods.
