Her mother, Heather Pereira, expressed her profound grief, describing the loss of her daughter as a pain she never thought possible. “I am shattered in a way I didn’t know was possible,” she remarked in a statement on a GoFundMe page set up to support the family in their time of need. Heather further lamented the heartbreaking reality that no parent should ever have to bury their own child.
Marleigh was a student at Park Avenue Elementary School, and her passing has been confirmed by the Webster Public Schools superintendent in a letter to the community. The school district has extended its condolences to Marleigh’s family, acknowledging the profound impact such a loss has on the entire community.

The driver involved in the incident has been identified by local authorities, though it remains unclear if any charges will be brought against them. The Webster Police Department is collaborating with the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council Accident Reconstruction Unit and the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
In a statement regarding the tragedy, the Webster Police Department expressed their sympathies, noting, “When a community tragically loses a child, it loses a piece of its soul.” The statement underscored the collective grief felt by family, friends, and neighbours as they mourn the loss of Marleigh.
Heather Pereira revealed that Marleigh was not just a daughter but also a sister to four other girls, who are now left trying to navigate life without her. “They are heartbroken, confused, and trying to understand something that doesn’t make sense,” she wrote. “There is now an emptiness in our home that can never be filled.”

The GoFundMe campaign initiated in Marleigh’s memory has exceeded £15,000, demonstrating the community’s desire to support the family during this harrowing time. Heather highlighted her daughter’s remarkable spirit, stating, “Marleigh was everything” to her. She described her daughter as a source of light and joy for everyone who knew her, capable of making people feel safe and loved.
Marleigh’s infectious laugh and genuine heart have been fondly remembered by those she touched. “To know her was to truly love her,” Heather noted, reflecting on the profound impact her daughter had on the world around her.
In honour of Marleigh’s memory, a vigil is planned for Monday, 13 April, providing friends and family an opportunity to gather, share their grief, and celebrate the life of a beloved young girl who left an indelible mark on their hearts.
