In a dramatic twist at this year’s Coachella music festival, Italian-American DJ Anyma surprised fans by stepping in for a last-minute performance following the cancellation of his scheduled set. Initially set to take the stage on Friday, April 10, Anyma’s show was called off due to severe wind conditions that jeopardised the safety of the performers and crew.

The Coachella Festival’s official Instagram account announced the cancellation just 15 minutes before Anyma was due to begin, confirming that safety was the principal concern. “Due to strong wind conditions affecting Anyma’s stage build, he is unable to perform tonight,” the festival stated. This decision, made in collaboration with the artist, was aimed at protecting the well-being of all involved.

Following the cancellation, Anyma, whose real name is Matteo Milleri, took to Instagram to express his disappointment. He described the situation as “heartbreaking,” expressing his sorrow to fans who gathered in anticipation, as well as those watching remotely. “I don’t have many words other than to say I’m truly devastated,” he stated, emphasizing how much he looked forward to showcasing his latest project, the ÆDEN show, which he had meticulously prepared over the past year.
Anyma conveyed his deep sense of loss as he reflected on the hard work that had gone into crafting his performance. He articulated the difficulty of cancelling, especially after investing so much time and effort into his show. “The dangerous winds not only restricted us from building our stage, but also made it impossible for my entire live setup and performance to operate safely,” he elaborated.
Despite the setbacks, his message hinted at a determination to make the most of the situation, stating that he would seek alternatives to deliver music to his fans without infringing upon other artists’ performance slots during the festival. “I’m working on a solution to bring you some music at least,” he assured followers, while keeping them updated on developments.
However, on Sunday, April 12, festival-goers were treated to a joyous surprise as Anyma returned to the stage in a back-to-back performance with fellow artist Marlon Hoffstadt. A joint post from the artists and the Do LaB, the stage presenter, announced the impromptu set, scheduled to close out the evening at 10:45 PM.
Marlon Hoffstadt, a Berlin-based DJ and producer, teamed up with Anyma for this unexpected collaboration, providing a vibrant addition to the festival’s lineup. Fans eagerly gathered, keen for the chance to see the pair perform live, and the excitement only heightened following the prior disappointment of Anyma’s cancelled show.
This year’s Coachella festival, held in Indio, California, also featured performances from major artists like Sabrina Carpenter, Justin Bieber, and Karol G, showcasing a diverse range of music and talent. The second weekend of the event is set to commence on Friday, April 17, concluding on Sunday, April 19, with anticipation growing for additional memorable moments.
As Anyma wraps up his appearances at the festival, his resilience in the face of adversity has resonated with fans. His journey through cancellation to surprise performance underscores the unpredictable nature of live events, while also highlighting the bond between artists and their audiences during challenging times.
