Two individuals have been taken into custody in Texas and charged with capital murder following the discovery of two bodies believed to be those of a woman’s mother and stepfather. Cassandra Lange, 29, and Joby Williams, 30, face grave allegations in connection with the deaths of Cherry and Stephen Rehbein. Their arrests occurred on April 8, according to a statement released by the Medina County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO).

The investigation began earlier that day when authorities received a request for a welfare check after Stephen Rehbein failed to appear at work. Responding to this call, deputies arrived at the Rehbeins’ residence in Mico and reportedly observed signs indicative of foul play. The MCSO has withheld specific details about the evidence, but the findings prompted officers to secure a search warrant to gather further information.
Utilising technology in their investigation, law enforcement located Stephen Rehbein’s vehicle, which had been moving in the vicinity of Corpus Christi. With the assistance of the Corpus Christi Police Department, officers performed a traffic stop on the vehicle and discovered both Lange and Williams inside, along with two young children. Subsequent interviews with the suspects led to a startling confession from Lange, who is Cherry’s biological daughter. According to MCSO, she admitted that both she and Williams had murdered her parents and disposed of their bodies in a nearby ravine.
Following Lange’s alleged confession, investigators shifted their efforts to search the Medina Lake area. Initially hampered by nighttime conditions, the search extended over several hours. Their perseverance paid off when deputies eventually located two large black garbage bags lodged in a deep ravine off FM 1283. Upon reviewing the contents of the bags, investigators confirmed that they contained the bodies of Cherry and Stephen Rehbein.
In light of this grim discovery, both Lange and Williams were arrested and face charges for the capital murder of two individuals. Each has been assigned a bond amounting to $1 million, according to local authorities.
