Sammy, along with seven close friends, has meticulously crafted a campsite this year that embodies “cutesy, girly, safe, comfortable, fairy vibes.” This attention to detail has allowed them to create a whimsical retreat amidst the bustling atmosphere of one of music’s most anticipated events. Despite the lack of running water and other conventional amenities, Anna’s campsite is designed to be a sanctuary where comfort meets creativity.
Preparation for this year’s festival began the moment the last note of the previous year’s performances faded. Anna reveals that she allocated a budget early on, spending approximately £180 on her parking pass, £75 on fuel, £150 for the weekend’s meals, £250 on festival attire, and around £300 on camping gear. Fortunately, many of the supplies have been collected over her previous visits, enabling her to revamp her setup without incurring excessive costs.
The decorative elements of her campsite reflect their playful theme, with twinkling lights, vibrant tapestries, and disco balls transforming the area into an enchanting space. Anna highlights that their camp features two canopies per person; some guests have even opted to utilise these canopies as sleeping quarters, avoiding the heat commonly found in traditional tents.
While the campsite boasts a makeshift kitchen area and inflatable seating arrangements, Anna admits that the absence of a shower can be a drawback. Festival-goers must brave communal showers located in trailers for cleanliness. Despite the discomfort, Anna emphasises the rewarding nature of the experience: “Camping is fun, but it’s not for everyone — you get hot and sweaty. It’s a fun experience if you’re willing to be a little uncomfortable,” she explains.
Security is also a consideration while enjoying the various performances. Anna and her companions secure their valuables in their vehicles during events, though they are often compelled to leave some items exposed. They rely on an unspoken bond of trust among fellow campers, indicating that the festival atmosphere fosters a sense of community.
This year, the festival features a stunning lineup, with headline performances by artists such as Sabrina Carpenter, Justin Bieber, and Karol G, among others. Sammy is particularly thrilled about Carpenter’s performance and expresses enthusiasm for the appearances of Subtronics and AYYBO. “The activations are so fun,” she says, mentioning how branded events not only distribute freebies but also create memorable experiences for attendees.
