In a candid interview with *Cultured* magazine, the actor expressed how landing a role in *The Pitt* was not only a career-defining moment but also a profound opportunity for financial liberation.

Ball disclosed that his financial burdens had loomed over him for years. “I paid off my student loans like three months into *The Pitt*, and that was a really profound moment,” he said, pausing to collect his emotions. He elaborated on how the weight of debt had impacted his relationships, contributing to a series of failed romances due to his financial insecurities. “I always thought that was going to be my life forever, and that is a really heavy thing to live with,” Ball stated.

The actor described paying off his loans as a pivotal moment that allowed him to shift his mindset. “Man, if this show works, great. If it doesn’t work, they can’t take that away from me,” he reflected. “I am out of debt. No take-backsies on that.” This newfound freedom not only alleviated a significant personal burden but also allowed him to fully focus on his craft without the constant worry of financial instability.

In *The Pitt*, Ball portrays Dr. Frank Langdon, a young physician at a Pittsburgh emergency room whose initial charm belies a more troubling personal struggle with addiction. After attending a treatment programme, his character was expected to return in the recently aired second season this January. This role is pivotal not just for the show’s narrative, but for Ball’s career trajectory as well.

Before his breakthrough, the 36-year-old actor had contemplated leaving the industry entirely. He recounted a particularly challenging period about six months prior to *The Pitt*, when he was living in New Haven with his then-girlfriend. “We were really struggling with coming up with a vision for the future,” he shared. With a passion for acting but plagued by financial uncertainty, Ball began to explore alternative careers, including positions with the FBI and the Merchant Marines, as well as the prospect of working at a fishing camp in Alaska.

Following the end of his relationship, Ball returned to North Carolina and was offered a lucrative fundraising job at High Point University. “It’s a $100,000 a year job, but I hated the idea of it,” he revealed. “I cannot be too broke to marry again.” Despite these uncertainties, Ball turned down the fundraising position to accept an acting role in a Miami play, a decision that ultimately changed the course of his life.

During this transformative period, he also met his partner, Elysia Roorbach, who joined him on his journey, even appearing in an episode of *The Pitt*. Together, they navigated the tumultuous road of striving for success in a competitive industry. However, Ball continued to work multiple jobs to support himself, including roles as a barista, a restaurant worker, and a wardrobe assistant for the HBO series *And Just Like That…*.

Interestingly, he also engaged in corporate coaching seminars where he played the role of an actor to help administrators practise difficult conversations, such as firing employees. “I’ve been fired thousands of times,” he jested, reflecting on that unique experience.

Just when it seemed that his dream of a stable acting career might slip away, he received the life-changing call that secured his role in *The Pitt*. “And then the call for *The Pitt* came in and everything was different,” he recalled, a moment that marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life.

He has also taken on new challenges, making his Broadway debut in the production of *Becky Shaw*, directed by Trip Cullman.
