A 16-year-old boy tragically lost his life in a vehicle collision in Arizona earlier this month. Jayben Camacho was struck by a car while attempting to cross the street on 2 April. The teenager’s father, Benny Camacho Jr., reflected on his son’s character, expressing that Jayben was inherently kind and altruistic. “It’s something that I think is just in him to be helpful, be kind, be generous to anybody really,” he remarked during an interview with local NBC affiliate, KPNX.
The incident, which occurred just after midday, prompted an immediate response from emergency services. According to a statement from the Chandler Police Department, Jayben was crossing Arizona Avenue near Detroit Street outside of a designated crosswalk when he was struck. Tragically, he sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. His father noted that the young man’s heart was given to another teenager, while his lungs were donated to a person who had relied on a respirator. Additionally, parts of his liver were transplanted into a five-month-old infant desperately in need of assistance.

On Monday, 6 April, Jayben’s loved ones gathered for an honour walk at Chandler Regional Medical Center to commemorate his life and contributions. Mary Claire Camacho, Jayben’s mother, expressed her hope for how he would be remembered. “I’m hoping that Jayben will be remembered as someone who supported you, who motivated you and wanted to push you forward, just as much as we were pushing him,” she told KPNX.
