Iconic singer-songwriter Sia has entered into a substantial child support agreement with her estranged husband, Daniel Bernad, amidst their ongoing divorce proceedings. In a heartfelt statement shared on social media, Sia expressed the challenges she faces as a working mother.

According to court documents acquired by PEOPLE, Sia will make monthly child support payments of $42,500 to Bernad for their son, Somersault Wonder Bernad. This arrangement is set to continue until the child turns 18. If he remains a full-time high school student, payments could extend until he graduates or reaches the age of 19. A provision for the payments to cease has also been outlined, which includes circumstances such as the child’s death, marriage, or emancipation, as well as any potential future amendments by a court.

In her post on the X platform dated April 7, Sia reflected on her experience as a “sober working mum trying to buy peace”. She elaborated that as she holds primary custody of their son, the responsibility of financial support rests heavily on her. “I have primary custody of our son and since I am the only parent earning income, I still have to pay California’s incredibly high child support,” she noted.

Despite the difficulty of the past year, Sia conveyed her determination to navigate challenging circumstances while prioritising her family and shielding herself from negativity. She concluded her statement with a quote from Alexander Pope’s poem “An Essay on Criticism”, reinforcing the theme of forgiveness in troubled times.
The couple’s relationship began in 2022 when they tied the knot. Their first child together was born on March 27, 2024. Sia, who is also a mother to two older sons, filed for divorce in March 2025, just a year after Somersault’s birth. This series of events has undoubtedly been a trying time for the artist, navigating both personal and public scrutiny.
As part of the financial arrangements, Sia is not only responsible for the child support payments but must also cover private school tuition, costs related to agreed-upon extracurricular activities, and uninsured healthcare expenses. Furthermore, she will maintain health insurance for their son, laying a comprehensive framework for their child’s upbringing.
In addition to the financial support, the couple has agreed to share legal custody of their son, establishing a co-parenting schedule that took effect on April 1, 2026. This mutual agreement highlights their commitment to working together for the well-being of their child, despite their separation.
Previously, issues surrounding spousal support were resolved separately in December 2025, clearing the way for the child support agreement as part of the divorce proceedings. As Sia continues to balance her career as a musician and her responsibilities as a mother, fans and observers alike will be interested to see how her journey unfolds in the coming months.
Sia’s candid reflections not only illuminate her personal struggles but also resonate with many who face similar challenges in the realm of parenthood and relationships. Her commitment to being a responsible parent amidst the complexities of her life as a musician remains a focal point as she moves forward.
