Media personality Perez Hilton has announced a significant milestone in his recovery journey, revealing that he can finally walk again following a harrowing hospitalisation that began earlier this month. On social media, Hilton expressed his relief, stating that while the pain remains “pronounced,” it is now manageable.

The 48-year-old blogger was initially admitted to a Las Vegas hospital in early March after experiencing severe stomach discomfort. This discomfort was a consequence of taking flu medication without food, which led to the development of an ulcer and subsequently resulted in a perforation and sepsis—an often lethal condition caused by severe infection.
After a brief recovery period, Hilton faced a further setback when he was readmitted to hospital due to a deep vein thrombosis in his right leg. Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) occurs when a blood clot forms in one or more of the deep veins, typically in the legs. Hilton described the emergency surgery he underwent this month, during which his cardiovascular surgeon removed a large blood clot extending from his groin to just below his calf.

In a social media update on April 7, Hilton detailed the extent of the clot’s blockage and shared his determination to regain mobility. “On Friday, my cardiovascular surgeon removed the most MASSIVE, fully occluded blood clot,” he noted, adding that he was encouraged to start walking shortly after his procedure.

In a video accompanying his announcement, Hilton showcased his progress by taking tentative steps with the aid of an aluminium walker. Overcome with emotion, he celebrated his regained ability to walk, exclaiming, “Glory be to God! The pain is still BOLD but manageable.” He was, however, candid about the ordeal, characterising the initial steps as “the most excruciating pain of my life.”
Despite the pain, Hilton emphasised the importance of mobility in preventing further complications. His medical team had conveyed concerns regarding blood coagulation and the risk of a recurrence. He admitted that although he had to cancel Easter plans due to severe discomfort, he remained optimistic about his progress, stating, “Every day will get easier and I will get stronger.”
In a previous video posted on YouTube, Hilton discussed the events that led to his critical condition, reflecting on what he referred to as his “stupidity” in taking flu medication without sufficient nutrition. He revealed how this decision culminated in a frightening medical episode, with the severity of his symptoms escalating to the point where he could not walk and required ambulance transport to the hospital.
Following five days in hospital, Hilton underwent laparoscopic surgery aimed at addressing the infection associated with his ulcer and subsequent procedures to drain fluid from his lungs. Reflecting on his ordeal, he described the entire experience as a slow and painful decline, spanning several weeks filled with immense discomfort.
“I’m grateful for the care I received and for being able to share this journey with you all,” he wrote, underscoring his resilience amid adversity. As he continues to navigate his recovery, Hilton remains focused on regaining strength and health while raising awareness about the serious consequences of neglecting medical advice.
