Smithfield Foods has unveiled an exciting new offering for food enthusiasts in the form of a limited-time collaboration that promises to elevate the classic beer brat. Announced on April 7, the partnership pairs Smithfield with the celebrated beer brand Pabst Blue Ribbon, resulting in a bratwurst that captures the essence of summer gatherings.

The product, aptly named the Smithfield x Pabst Blue Ribbon beer bratwurst, is crafted from premium pork and infused with the rich, smooth flavour of PBR. This innovative creation is described as a nostalgic twist on an American favourite, designed to complement the quintessential outdoor grilling experience.

Katherine Mata, Pabst Brewing Company’s director of culture marketing, expressed her enthusiasm for the product, stating, “Beer and brats have always belonged together, we just teamed up with Smithfield to do it right with a seriously good brat.” She added that the combination of beer and bratwurst is a natural fit, stating simply, “It’s an easy win for anyone who believes grilling should come with a cold beer.”
In addition to the Pabst variant, Smithfield is expanding its bratwurst repertoire with two additional flavours aimed at enticing the palates of food lovers. The new offerings include a jalapeño and cheddar brat, lauded for its appealing interplay of heat and creaminess, and a chipotle and cheddar brat that promises a unique blend of smoky warmth and rich, cheesy flavour.
Marianne Radley, managing director of marketing for Smithfield Foods, noted the alignment of their new products with the seasonal rise in outdoor gatherings. “As the weather gets warmer, we know consumers are planning to gather over great food, and bold flavours are a must,” she said. Radley highlighted how these new bratwurst options, particularly the Pabst Blue Ribbon beer brat, provide consumers with premium and shareable options that are easy to prepare for backyard festivities.
The excitement surrounding these new bratwursts is part of a broader trend where brands are encouraging food enthusiasts to explore innovative culinary ideas. Smithfield is not alone in this endeavour; for instance, the culinary team at Lucas Oil Stadium recently unveiled specialty footlong hot dogs in celebration of March Madness. Among these concoctions is the extravagant 1939 Dog, which features a footlong sausage layered with a variety of toppings, including shaved ribeye, beer cheese, chipotle aioli, caramelised and fried onions, chopped bacon, as well as roasted peppers.
The push towards bold flavour pairings continues with Johnsonville, which recently introduced a “swalty” Dr Pepper-inspired sausage that encourages experimentation with daring toppings. The brand’s message promotes combining the sausage with various condiments, including spicy BBQ sauces, stone-ground mustards, and sweet hot honey, as well as traditional accompaniments like caramelised onions and grilled peppers.
As food lovers eagerly anticipate the arrival of Smithfield’s innovative bratwurst lineup, it seems clear that the combination of creative flavours and classic summertime grilling is set to be a winning recipe. With the Pabst Blue Ribbon beer brat at the forefront, Smithfield’s limited-time offerings are expected to capture the interest of grillmasters and casual cooks alike this season.
With outdoor gatherings on the rise, these new bratwursts from Smithfield are likely to become a highlight of many barbecues, proving that ready-to-grill options can still be adventurous and tasty. As consumers seek out products that enhance their culinary experiences, Smithfield’s collaboration with Pabst is a testament to the potential of combining quality ingredients with innovative ideas.
As the summer months approach, Smithfield is well-positioned to cater to the desires of those looking to elevate their outdoor dining with flavours that are not only bold but also resonate with a sense of nostalgia and celebration. Whether enjoyed at a backyard barbecue or a picnic in the park, the combination of Smithfield and Pabst Blue Ribbon is poised to make a significant splash amongst food enthusiasts.
