Former NBA player Lamar Odom has opened up about the discomfort he experienced while reuniting with his ex-wife, Khloé Kardashian, for his Netflix documentary. During a candid interview on *Today* with Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones on April 6, Odom described the reunion as “awkward” and indicated that it was not beneficial for him personally.

At 46 years of age, Odom reflected on the shared history between him and Kardashian, noting that their relationship remains rooted in family ties. “Once you’re family, you’re always family, so she ain’t going nowhere,” he asserted, emphasising the enduring bond that lingers despite their past challenges.

The reunion was part of the docuseries titled *Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom*, which delves into his life, including the difficulties he faced following a near-fatal overdose in 2015. When pressed if he still harbours feelings for Kardashian and whether a romantic reconciliation might be possible, he clarified, “Well, I will always have love for her, but being in love, no.”
Reflecting on their marriage, which took place in 2009 after a whirlwind courtship of just 30 days, Odom referred to the “lot of love” shared between them during that time. He also took a moment to commend Kardashian’s mother, Kris Jenner, for orchestrating what he hailed as a beautiful wedding. “I don’t regret it,” Odom stated regarding their union, underscoring his appreciation for the past.
The documentary reveals revealing insights into Odom’s life and the impact of his relationship with Kardashian. One particularly dramatic moment discussed involves an incident when Kardashian found Odom using drugs in a house she had rented for him after he completed rehabilitation. This confrontation led to a physical altercation, with Kardashian reportedly punching Odom in the face. Their relationship deteriorated as she struggled to support him through his battles with addiction.
In the interview, Odom was asked whether Kardashian played a role in saving his life during this tumultuous period. He responded that she helped him “in some ways,” but ultimately, he believes that “God saved my life.” He expressed gratitude for Kardashian’s care, remarking that his recovery was akin to “a medical miracle.”
Interestingly, Odom admitted he has yet to watch the entirety of the documentary episode, although he expressed intentions to do so. He noted that the imagery of himself in a hospital bed following his overdose resonates with him strongly, stating, “that probably hits the most” emotionally.
Kardashian has publicly traversed her emotional journey since her divorce from Odom, which was finalised in December 2016. Initially, she filed for divorce in December 2013, but their relationship remained on shaky ground for several years as they sought to mend their bond. Her subsequent relationship with NBA player Tristan Thompson, characterised by its ups and downs, ended in 2021, leaving Kardashian single since.
As Odom and Kardashian continue to navigate their complex past, both seem committed to maintaining mutual respect and support for one another, underscoring the notion that family ties can endure even under challenging circumstances. The insights shared in the Netflix docuseries have provided viewers with a rare glimpse into their journey, while highlighting themes of love, loss, and recovery.
