Alison Brie, well-known for her role in the hit series “Glow,” recently shared insights into her home life with husband and fellow actor Dave Franco. Despite the couple’s long-standing marriage, Brie humorously admits that Franco is not the culinary type, revealing that he doesn’t take to the kitchen at all. “Dave doesn’t cook,” she told PEOPLE, chuckling. “I’m the sole home cook in our house.”

Over the years, the couple has installed a barbecue in their backyard. However, it hasn’t been used since it was set up. Brie reminisced about the time they planned to put it to good use, recalling her enthusiastic proposal to Franco for him to take charge of grilling. “When we put the barbecue in, I thought, ‘And you’ll barbecue!’ Dave was like, ‘Uh-huh.’ But it remains untouched after ten years,” she added with a light-hearted tone.

While Franco may not wield the spatula, he more than makes up for it by being an ardent fan of Brie’s cooking. “He’s genuinely the best,” she expressed. “Even when I cook something that’s not quite right, I’ll look over and see he’s licked his plate clean.” According to Brie, her husband dutifully praises her creations, even when she is aware they may not have turned out perfectly. “I could burn a dish, and he’ll still say, ‘This was delicious.’ I appreciate that honesty, but sometimes I just know.”
Despite Franco’s lack of cooking skills, he remains an active participant in the kitchen by assisting Brie as her “sous chef.” His contributions include tasks like de-sprigging basil and washing dishes, which Brie finds incredibly helpful.
Brie is now teaming up with Hello Fresh as part of their Supper Club campaign, hoping to rejuvenate the trend of relaxed dinner parties among friends. She noted that the pandemic has contributed to a decline in such social gatherings, stating, “I think COVID killed [dinner parties], honestly. We all got scared to have people over.” The actress expressed concern about how hosting has become a daunting task, leading to fewer gatherings.
Reflecting on the pressures of hosting, Brie admitted that dinner parties used to cause her significant stress. “I would think, ‘Oh, I’m going to host. I have to have an appetizer, an entrée, a dessert, a snack and a signature cocktail.’ That’s a lot of pressure!” However, she hopes to normalise a more casual approach to entertaining. “I keep saying to Dave, ‘We need to normalise the mellow hang.’”
In her partnership with Hello Fresh, Brie has found a solution to enhance her cooking experience. “I’ve been in a food rut,” she confessed. “When I lack inspiration, I either don’t cook or make the same dish repeatedly.” With the help of Hello Fresh, she is exploring new recipes, a welcome change from her usual meals. “It’s a hit with my husband, and it has encouraged me to try things I wouldn’t normally prepare at home,” she noted.
Additionally, Brie emphasised the convenience of the service, revealing that many meals can be ready in under 30 minutes. “It’s delicious and healthy,” she described her experience, highlighting the range of over a hundred recipes available to choose from as a significant advantage.
As part of her collaboration with the brand, Brie is set to host a virtual dinner party on April 22 with a lucky contest winner. She aims to demonstrate that dinner gatherings can be enjoyable without the associated stress. “Dinner parties don’t have to be intimidating. It’s all about spending time with your friends,” she concluded, underscoring the importance of connection and camaraderie.
With her down-to-earth approach to cooking and entertaining, Alison Brie continues to inspire a more relaxed mindset towards hosting, while offering a glimpse into her life with the charming Dave Franco. Together, they embody a modern couple’s journey, navigating the intricacies of marriage, cooking, and friendship.
