Donna Mills, the iconic actress best known for her role in the long-running series *Knots Landing*, has recently addressed an unwarranted critique regarding her makeup choices in a humorous and stylish manner. The 85-year-old star took to Instagram on Sunday, 5 April, to share a light-hearted video in response to a comment she received stating that she was “wearing too much makeup for your age.”

In her Instagram Reel, Mills, sporting a striking black leather jacket, a lacy tank top, trendy blue jeans, and her signature glamorous makeup, made it clear that she had no intention of conforming to any societal expectations about appearance. With a wink and a laugh, she quipped that she “didn’t get the memo” about aging and beauty standards. The clip deftly transitions to a comical portrayal of a stereotypical grandmother, complete with a grey bun, ruffled blouse, and wire-rimmed glasses. As she posed in this outfit, she cheekily asked, “Did you want me to look like this?”

Mills stands firmly by her personal style, asserting confidently, “Sorry, not sorry. I like the way I look. This is my style, and style doesn’t have an expiration date.” The actress concluded the video with a clear message in the caption: “I said what I said 🤍 #style #aging #makeup #clapback #armchairwarrior.”
Her response has garnered significant attention, reflecting her longstanding reputation for enjoying high glamour. Mills’ striking makeup looks have been a hallmark of her career, particularly during her time on *Knots Landing*, where she portrayed Abby Cunningham from 1980 to 1989. Known for doing her own makeup, she often opted for a cool-toned smokey eye that brilliantly highlighted her blue eyes, complemented by bright blush and vibrant pink lipsticks.
At a recent event, the Southfork Experience: *Knots Landing* Panel in August, Mills shared insights into her enduring passion for makeup. She revealed how fans often reached out to her with questions about her beauty routine, prompting her to produce a tutorial that was later distributed by Universal Pictures. “People kept writing to me. At that time, you couldn’t text or do any of that stuff,” Mills recalled. “They were asking me how I achieved my eye makeup, and I thought, why don’t I just do a video about it?”
Taking the initiative, Mills organised a production crew and filmed the tutorial at her own home, financing it herself. Though she initially struggled with distribution, she approached Universal Pictures, who recognised its potential and agreed to handle its release. The resulting project was a resounding success, going platinum.
Mills shared that her distinctive on-screen look was often influenced by the emotional scenes she had to portray. Notably, she preferred non-waterproof mascara to enhance her tearful moments on screen. “Whenever I had to cry, I always used non-waterproof mascara because the best thing is the mascara running down your face. You got to have that,” she stated.
The actress’s recent Instagram post not only highlights her enduring confidence but also serves as a reminder that beauty and style can transcend age. Mills’ playful retort to online criticism has sparked conversations around ageism and societal expectations of women’s appearances, encouraging others to embrace their individual beauty.
Through her work and personal philosophy, Mills continues to inspire both her fans and followers, proving that one’s style is a personal expression that does not diminish with age. As she maintains her glamorous persona, Mills reinforces the idea that it’s not just about looking good, but also about feeling confident and comfortable in one’s own skin.
