A severely injured puppy named Peanut is currently undergoing treatment at Pasadena Humane in California, following a distressing arrival at the shelter. The young dog was taken in with grave injuries, including a dislocated jaw and a significant portion of his nose missing. Since his admission, Peanut has been the subject of multiple surgeries aimed at addressing his respiratory issues, allowing him to breathe more comfortably.

In a recent social media post, Pasadena Humane expressed its sorrow at Peanut’s condition upon his arrival. “We were heartbroken by the shape he was in,” the shelter stated, emphasising the urgent care the puppy required. “Despite everything, this little pup has been so brave,” they added, highlighting his resilient spirit amidst adversity.
Peanut’s plight began when a concerned citizen discovered him and promptly contacted the shelter. Kevin McManus, the public relations and communications director at Pasadena Humane, recounted how the shelter’s animal control officer responded urgently to rescue the puppy. Despite the uncertainty regarding Peanut’s background or any potential owners, swift action was taken to provide him with the necessary medical attention.
Upon examination, veterinarians determined that Peanut’s facial injuries were compromising his ability to breathe due to the closure of his nostril. To rectify this, he underwent a series of procedures to ensure that his airway remained unobstructed. A small tube was inserted into his nostril to aid his healing process, allowing him to breathe more easily as he recovered.
Currently, Peanut is receiving around-the-clock care in the shelter’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where dedicated staff are closely monitoring his progress. McManus conveyed an optimistic outlook for Peanut’s future, stating, “Medically, we think he’s going to ultimately recover. We’re very confident that he will have a full and healthy life.”
Although it is unclear what led to Peanut’s injuries—be it an accident or an encounter with another animal—what remains evident is his sweet disposition. Staff members describe him as affectionate and playful, despite the challenges he faces. “He’s just the sweetest puppy,” McManus noted. “He loves playing and is going to be a wonderful, happy dog, albeit with a uniquely shaped nose.”
As Peanut continues his recovery, the focus remains on his health and well-being. Once he is cleared by the shelter’s veterinary team, he will be made available for adoption. McManus expressed a hopeful sentiment for what lies ahead, stating, “We’re really excited for the day that he gets to go home.”
