Johnny Depp, the acclaimed actor known for his memorable role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series, has embarked on a new venture in the spirits industry with the unveiling of his rum brand, Three Hearts. Depp hosted a launch event at The Ebell Theater in Los Angeles on March 31, 2026, marking a significant moment in his career as he steps into the world of fine spirits alongside his business partner, Bobby DeLeon.

During the event, Depp took the opportunity to discuss the brand with media outlets, emphasising that the Caribbean rum has his fictional character’s approval. He humorously impersonated his iconic role, saying, “I’m afraid so. He’s in there even now,” indicating that Captain Jack Sparrow’s spirit would undoubtedly enjoy his latest creation.

Three Hearts Rum stands out with its unique ageing process. It is initially aged for five years in ex-bourbon barrels, with a touch of Oloroso, before being recasked for another two years in ex-Cognac barrels. This meticulous maturation results in a rum that embodies a rich, layered flavour profile that has been seven years in the making.
Guests at the launch enjoyed a lively atmosphere enriched by live music from Matteo Bocelli, along with an array of cocktails specially crafted for the event. Notable drinks included the “3 Hearts Libre,” a twist on a Cuba Libre that features Depp’s rum with a homemade cherry-vanilla cola, lime, and soda. Another signature cocktail offered was the “Charred Piña Mojito,” which combines the rum with demerara sugar, muddled pineapple, mint, lime, and soda, perfectly paired with delectable fire-grilled prawns and roasted pineapple.
The star-studded guest list featured prominent personalities, including producer Jerry Bruckheimer, musician Steven Tyler from Aerosmith, and renowned artist Beck, all of whom gathered to celebrate Depp’s new venture. Depp expressed his excitement and gratitude for their support and attendance at the event.
When speaking with media, Depp revealed the deeper significance behind the name “Three Hearts.” He pointed to his tattoo of three hearts, signifying his loved ones: Vanessa Paradis, the mother of his children; Lily-Rose Depp; and Jack Depp. This family representation highlights the personal connection that Depp sought to encapsulate within his brand.
Depp shared that his family had participated in a tasting session of the rum and reacted positively, stating they were supportive of his entrepreneurial efforts. “They’ve tried it. We did a little tasting session and everybody was cool and liked it,” he noted before attributing a sense of encouragement to his children, who seem to appreciate their father’s new journey.
One of the motivations behind the creation of Three Hearts Rum is Depp’s desire to contribute to the well-being of the Caribbean community, particularly as the region frequently suffers from natural disasters. He remarked on the importance of honouring the tradition and the people behind the craft of rum-making. “Rum holds the history of the islands. It’s shaped by the hands of the people who grow the cane, ferment the spirit and age it over time,” he stated, indicating a commitment to highlighting the cultural significance intertwined with his product.
Depp is aware of the competitive landscape within the spirits market, cheekily asserting that he did not intend to compete with Bob Dylan’s Heaven’s Door bourbon. “There is nothing in my mind or in my skull in any way that wants to go into competition,” he quipped, adding a touch of levity to the conversation.
Three Hearts Rum is crafted in the Dominican Republic, and its guiding motto, “No Fear. No Malice. No Envy,” reflects the brand’s core principles. The rum is now available for purchase online, retailing at $69.99 via the official Three Hearts website.
As Johnny Depp forays into the world of spirits with Three Hearts, he combines his passion for rum with an underlying narrative of family, tradition, and support for the Caribbean, giving fans and consumers a glimpse into his personal journey through this new venture.
