**Former Turnstile Guitarist Arrested for Attempted Murder Following Alleged Attack on Bandmate’s Father**

Brady Ebert, previously a guitarist for the acclaimed rock band Turnstile, has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after an incident in which he is accused of running over the father of his former bandmate, Brendan Yates. The 33-year-old was taken into custody in Silver Spring, Maryland, on March 30, following an incident that left William Yates, aged 79, with serious injuries.
According to court records, Ebert faces two serious charges: attempted second-degree murder and first-degree assault. Police were called to the scene on March 29, where they found the elder Yates suffering from significant trauma to both legs. Family members reported to the officers that William Yates had been deliberately struck by Ebert, described as a “neighbour and past friend of the family.”
Eyewitness accounts from William Yates’ family suggest that Ebert displayed erratic behaviour prior to the incident. Ebert allegedly drove up to the Yates’ home while shouting obscenities, prompting William’s daughter to take her young son away in an attempt to avoid confrontation. The disturbance seemed to be a continuation of a pattern of harassment, with family members indicating that Ebert’s behaviour had worsened since his departure from Turnstile in 2022.
Documents related to the court case reveal that William Yates had previously warned about Ebert’s increasing hostility, stating that he had been subjected to taunts and provocations for some time. After the alleged attack, Ebert reportedly returned to the scene, telling William Yates that he “deserved it,” escalating concerns about his behaviour.
Following his arrest, Ebert was located by authorities at a nearby shopping centre and is currently being held without bond. He appeared in court on April 2, with his attorney, Andrew D. Alpert, declining to make any public comments regarding the case.
Turnstile, the Grammy-award winning band co-founded by Ebert and Yates back in 2010, severed ties with Ebert in 2022 due to mounting concerns over his behaviour. In a statement released to the press, the remaining members of the band—Brendan Yates, guitarists Pat McCrory and Meg Mills, bassist Franz Lyons, and drummer Daniel Fang—explained that they had tried to support Ebert but eventually had no choice but to set boundaries when his actions became threatening.
Their statement underscored the gravity of the situation, indicating that the band had maintained confidentiality around his behaviour for an extended period. “After exhausting every available resource to support his access to help and recovery, a boundary ultimately had to be set when healthy communication was no longer possible and he began threatening violence,” it read. The band expressed relief that William Yates survived the attack and underwent successful surgery, wishing him well in his recovery.
Post-Turnstile, Ebert briefly joined a new group, The S.E.T., but was removed from the band in February 2023 due to his conduct, which led the remaining members to state they could not support his actions any longer.
Despite the turmoil caused by Ebert’s alleged actions, Turnstile has continued to thrive musically, releasing their first album without him, titled *Never Enough*, in June 2025. The band received critical acclaim, winning both Best Rock Album and Best Metal Performance at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
