Drew Lachey Reacts to Mariah Carey Remembering Him Years After 98 Degrees Collab

Drew Lachey has shared a nostalgic moment from his past involving music icon Mariah Carey, highlighting their connection through the 1999 hit “Thank God I Found You.” During a recent episode of the Teen Beat podcast, Lachey reminisced about recording this well-known song alongside Carey and R&B singer Joe.

The collaboration was significant in the late ’90s and garnered a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals. However, Lachey revealed that Carey did not join 98 Degrees in the studio during the initial recording of the track. The group was on a rigorous tour schedule, which prevented them from coming together with Carey in person.

“We were on tour. She was on tour,” Lachey explained. “You know, it was like two ships passing in the night.” This busy period meant they could only film the music video for “Thank God I Found You” during one of their tour stops. Lachey recounted, “We had no time to travel somewhere, shoot a video. So, you know, the ‘Thank God I Found You’ video was basically on our tour set in the middle of somewhere in, you know, the middle of America.”

Fast forward to a few years later, Lachey had the opportunity to reconnect with Carey in a different setting. He was involved in consulting on a Hallmark movie in Cincinnati, which Carey was directing and starring in. It was during the first table read for the film that their paths crossed again.

Lachey described the scene, noting Carey was sitting across the table from him, wearing sunglasses. When it was his turn to introduce himself, she unexpectedly pulled her sunglasses down and looked directly at him. “And she’s like, ‘I know you,'” he recounted. Lachey remarked that it was a relief to him that she remembered their previous collaboration, acknowledging that it would have been quite awkward if she hadn’t.

Reflecting on their interaction, Lachey expressed his gratitude for the reconnection, stating, “Thank God,” as he realised the significance of their shared history. He was relieved that Carey acknowledged their past, particularly since they had achieved a number one hit together.
