In a remarkable showcase of resilience and determination, Kennedy Bingham has completed a HYROX fitness competition, overcoming significant physical and emotional hurdles following a life-changing accident in 2021. The Idaho resident was involved in a serious car crash that left her ejected from the vehicle and suspended upside-down on a 30-foot-high power line, leading to the amputation of her leg and severe injuries to her arm.

Bingham’s journey of recovery has been filled with challenges. She experiences a brachial plexus injury, which resulted in the severing of several nerves from her spine, rendering her arm paralysed and accompanied by daily chronic pain. “It feels like pins and needles, stabbing sensations, and sometimes it’s like it’s on fire,” Bingham shared during a recent interview.
Despite the physical and emotional trauma she endured, Bingham has continually pushed herself to redefine her limits. This spirit of determination led her to sign up for a HYROX event, a demanding fitness competition that combines running with a series of rigorous strength challenges. For Bingham, the initiative was less about fitness and more about demonstrating her capabilities post-accident. “I chose it because it scared me,” she stated. “I knew it would push me harder than anything else.”
Her training regime was intensive and required six months of persistence, as Bingham trained alongside her husband. Nonetheless, she admitted that the repetitiveness of the process often left her feeling drained. “The training was honestly the worst part,” she revealed, citing the monotony of daily exercises such as running and sled pulls.
During the competition held in November, Bingham and her husband competed as part of a relay team. While the day of the race brought with it a surge of adrenaline, she encountered various challenges, particularly during the running segments where she had to adjust to her prosthetic. “Running was probably the hardest part for me,” she said, explaining how sweat would cause her prosthetic to slip. Despite this, she managed to complete two kilometres of running while also engaging in other challenging tasks like sled pulls and farmer carries.
Bingham faced unexpected difficulties during the event, such as struggling to maintain her balance while wearing her running blade during the farmer carries. “It went a lot worse than I thought,” she admitted, yet her resolve remained unbroken. “We finished it, and we did it,” she remarked proudly.
The emotional satisfaction of crossing the finish line alongside her husband was immeasurable. “Watching him push through those 100 wall balls was so impressive,” she said, recalling the shared moment of victory. Beyond the physical challenges of the race, Bingham described the mental strain she experienced. “My mind was telling me to stop throughout the entire race,” she confessed, but instead, she chose to persevere.
Reflecting on her experiences, Bingham shared her revelation about her own strength: “You are truly so much stronger than you think you are.” She also mentioned the frustration of her prosthetic slipping during the race due to sweat, resulting in injuries to her hand. “I refused to walk,” she explained, detailing how she adapted during the race to keep going regardless of the pain and discomfort.
Bingham chronicled her journey through TikTok, where her inspiring transformation and participation in HYROX resonated widely. Her videos, which attracted millions of views, highlight not only her struggles but also the communal support flowing from her followers. “I’m crying with you all! This is what life is about,” read one comment, echoing the sentiments of many viewers who found motivation in her story.
Through her online presence, Bingham hopes to empower others facing their own challenges. “The whole point of sharing is to show others that they can also embark on difficult paths,” she emphasized, adding that her journey is about proving to herself what she is capable of accomplishing.
Looking ahead, Bingham remains enthusiastic about future challenges, considering participating in another HYROX event or even training for a marathon, despite the trepidation such a feat evokes. “Choose your hard,” she concluded, encouraging others to embrace their own journeys. Her words serve as a powerful reminder to push boundaries and live life fully, no matter the obstacles.
