Billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban recently shared some insights into his unconventional lunch choices during a live podcast held at the South by Southwest festival. The former “Shark Tank” judge has made headlines for his unusual yet nutritious meal, which consists primarily of baby clams served on egg white wraps, drizzled with honey. This peculiar combination has garnered attention, especially from his teenage son, who reportedly vacates the kitchen due to the strong odour emanating from his father’s lunchtime creation.

During the event, hosted by Peloton instructor Robin Arzón, Cuban candidly discussed his commitment to increasing his protein intake, particularly following his workouts. He begins his lunch by using egg white wraps that he orders online, which contain only 50 calories and a substantial 11 grams of protein per serving. Clearly pleased with his nutritional choices, he remarked, “I can go with that because I want my protein after a workout.”
Cuban’s admiration for baby clams—chosen for their high iron content—was met with both disbelief and amusement from the audience. He readily admitted, “I know this is gonna sound so gross… And it is disgusting,” referencing his son’s immediate desire to exit the kitchen. To counteract the less appealing aspects of the baby clams, he adds honey to enhance the flavour, a tactic he claims is necessary due to the nature of the dish. “But, because they sound disgusting, they taste disgusting, I put honey on them,” he quipped, inciting laughter from the audience.

The billionaire took a moment to illustrate the meticulous preparation of his meal, where he drains the clams from their can. “So I’m like squishing the can, and the clam juice is everywhere,” he described, noting that he must be careful not to let any clam juice touch the wrap, or it would compromise the dish. Each serving of baby clams contains 80 calories and 14 grams of protein, allowing Cuban to meet his goal of 25 grams of protein for the meal when combined with the egg wraps.
“What’s not to love?” he jokingly challenged his listeners, willing them to be unconvinced by his culinary suggestions. “Everybody’s got a phone out, they’re going to Amazon right now,” he remarked, seeming to recognise the absurdity of the combination yet standing firmly behind its nutritional benefits. As Arzón interjected with playful disbelief at the bizarre mixture, Cuban continued to defend his selection with a casual confidence.
In addition to his unusual lunch habits, Cuban’s breakfast options mirror a more traditional fare, consisting of Kellogg’s Corn Flakes topped with honey and apricots. He attributes his willingness to experiment with food combinations to a rule he established for his children during their upbringing: “If you like one thing, and you like another thing, and you put them together, you’re gonna like it a lot more.” He referenced classic pairings like chocolate and peanut butter as successful examples of this philosophy.

Cuban’s life has seen significant transformation since his departure from “Shark Tank” back in May 2025, after dedicating 14 years to the show. He expressed a desire to prioritise family time, particularly for celebrating the upcoming birthdays of his wife and children. “For this coming fall, I’ll be able to finally be home for my wife, son’s and oldest daughter’s birthdays,” he shared, noting that he was often away filming during these special occasions.
As he embraces this new chapter, Cuban looks forward to spending more time with his children, Alexis, 22, Alyssa, 20, and Jake, 16. Reflecting on his anticipated role as a more present father, he stated, “They will have more time to ignore me and tell me how I’m not as cool as I think I am. All which I love.” His humorous acknowledgment of the generational gap reveals a softer side to the billionaire—a father eager to bond over shared moments and dad jokes, regardless of the occasional eye-rolling from his children.
Mark Cuban’s candid revelations about his lunch and family life illustrate the balancing act many parents face between personal goals and familial obligations. With a commitment to both nutrition and quality time with his loved ones, he’s navigating the challenges of fatherhood in his own unique style.
