To compile the list, Fusion Academy meticulously examined 100 book titles featured in the New York Times’ “Best Books of the 21st Century” directory. By utilising Google Trends data, the research identified which titles sparked the highest level of search interest in each individual state, thus revealing a fascinating glimpse into the literary preferences of readers across the country.
Heading the list was “The Road” by Cormac McCarthy, a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel that explores a bleak post-apocalyptic landscape through the eyes of a father and son. It emerged as the most-searched book in twelve states, including Alaska, Indiana, and South Dakota, indicating its broad appeal and enduring relevance.
Jennifer Egan’s “A Visit from the Goon Squad,” which also earned a Pulitzer Prize, ranked highly as well. This intricate narrative follows a music executive and his eclectic cast of characters, representing the most-searched title in Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Iowa.
