Authorities swiftly intervened after a passenger on a Frontier Airlines flight made a bomb threat shortly after the plane’s arrival in Atlanta. The incident occurred on 29 March when flight 2539, travelling from Columbus, Ohio, landed at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

According to a statement from Frontier Airlines provided to PEOPLE, the disturbance arose just as the aircraft was taxiing towards the terminal. An audio recording captured by The Independent and local news outlet 11Alive revealed the pilot alerting air traffic control about an escalation in passenger behaviour. The pilot indicated that a man had begun to threaten a female passenger, claiming he possessed a bomb.

In response to the situation, the plane was diverted to a remote parking area, where law enforcement officials awaited its arrival to assess the credibility of the threat. “As a matter of precaution and in coordination with local authorities, the aircraft parked at a remote location while law enforcement responded,” the airline’s statement detailed.

Once the aircraft was safely on the ground, all individuals on board were escorted off using airstairs and subsequently transported to the terminal. Fortunately, Frontier Airlines confirmed that the threat had been thoroughly investigated and deemed non-credible. The FBI also echoed this assessment, asserting that there was “no continuing threat related to this incident.”

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, in conjunction with the Atlanta Police Department, launched an inquiry into the actions of the unruly passenger. A spokesperson for the FBI highlighted that they were intending to gather information through interviews regarding the events that unfolded. Additionally, they noted that they would be consulting with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia to determine if any federal charges could be pursued against the individual involved in the disruption.
