Woman, 45, Who Spent Thousands and Underwent Multiple Surgeries to Look ‘Refreshed,’ Claps Back at Criticism She Now Looks Older

A woman from Adelaide, Australia, has found herself in the midst of controversy after undergoing extensive cosmetic surgery in Turkey, costing just under $14,000. At 45 years of age, Jojo McGinniss has become the subject of criticism from some who suggest that her new appearance makes her look “years older,” but she remains unfazed by the negative comments.

McGinniss turned to plastic surgery after contemplating it since reaching the age of 42. Speaking to media outlets, she explained that her primary aim was to maintain her identity while achieving a more refreshed look. “I still wanted to be me, that was my goal. I just wanted to look refreshed,” she articulated.

Initially, Jojo explored various clinics within Australia; however, she eventually opted for surgery in Turkey due to the more economical pricing. After conducting thorough research, she settled on a surgeon and proceeded to save for her desired procedures, which included a deep plane facelift, neck lift, temple lift, liposuction of her mid-section, and facial fat transfer.

Despite her enthusiasm, Jojo faced apprehension from family and friends, including her partner, Dave Pettman, aged 53. McGinniss noted that Dave had concerns about the possibility of her losing her natural appearance. “He was fearful at first that I’d not look like myself any more,” she recounted. Additionally, friends told her that she was “beautiful as she is” and that she was “still young and didn’t need it.”

Nevertheless, Jojo felt assured in her decision, particularly about rectifying her neck, which was her primary concern. “I knew it was the right decision for me, even though people told me I’m still young,” she said.

In February, Jojo and Dave embarked on a challenging journey to Turkey that included a 19-hour flight in economy class, following which she underwent eight hours of surgery. Post-procedure, McGinniss experienced noticeable swelling, a reaction she had anticipated. “When I first saw myself after the surgery, all swollen, I was like, ‘What the f–k?’ But I knew it would only be temporary,” she recalled.

A month after the surgery, Jojo expressed immense satisfaction with the results despite receiving unwelcome feedback on social media. “People say I look years older or that I look exactly the same,” she remarked, demonstrating resilience in the face of criticism. “I have thick skin… I don’t think I look older, and I don’t know why people put others down like that,” she added, expressing her confusion about the motivations behind such remarks.

In addition, she addressed comments that labelled her surgery as a financial waste. “Some have said it’s a waste of money,” she admitted, countering that her goal was to feel “snatched,” and that, given the opportunity, she would make the same choices again.

Ultimately, the total cost for her transformative journey amounted to approximately $13,800, which encompassed surgery fees as well as flight expenses. Jojo concluded, “It’s a lot of money for quite subtle changes, but they’re exactly the changes I wanted.”

McGinniss’s experience shines a spotlight on the growing trend of medical tourism for cosmetic procedures, where individuals seek affordable options abroad.
