In a heartbreaking incident in Argentina, a one-year-old boy, Dante Valentín Bermudes Rumi, lost his life after allegedly choking on a piece of an acrylic nail. The distressing event occurred on Saturday, March 21, when Dante’s mother, Aylin Saucedo, was in the process of changing his diaper.

As she attended to her son, Aylin reported that Dante began to choke on a fake nail, which she later discovered was partially clipped. In a desperate attempt to assist her child, she reached into Dante’s mouth in an effort to dislodge the obstruction, only to inadvertently push the nail further down his throat. This harrowing moment marked the beginning of a frantic situation as Aylin realised that her son was unable to breathe.
Recalling the panic that ensued, Aylin shared her ordeal with local news outlets, saying, “We were at home and I realised he wasn’t breathing. I ran outside to ask my neighbour for help, but she couldn’t assist. My aunt then came upstairs, but she was unable to help as well. So, I rushed to the hospital.” The urgency of the situation was compounded by the reality that the journey to Grand Bourg Trauma Hospital took approximately ten minutes.
Despite the immediate efforts of medical staff to save Dante’s life upon their arrival at the hospital, the young boy sadly succumbed to the effects of choking. An autopsy report later confirmed that the cause of death was asphyxiation due to airway obstruction, while noting that Dante’s body showed no indications of external violence. This revelation has led to an investigation by the San Martín Justice system into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
In the wake of this devastating loss, Aylin has publicly shared her feelings of grief and loss through social media, expressing her deep sorrow over the death of her son. In a heartfelt tribute, she stated, “Today you’re no longer here, and all I have left are your toys, your little moles, and all your things without you. Mom is shattered into a thousand pieces and doesn’t even have the strength to face this pain.” She continued, “I need you with me. I miss you. It breaks my heart to know we won’t have another morning together having breakfast.”
Amidst her mourning, Aylin disclosed that tensions have arisen with Dante’s father, whom she claimed has blamed her for the choking incident. She alleges that he attempted to restrict her from participating in her son’s funeral, causing further anguish during this already painful time. “They wouldn’t give me any information about the arrangements. They wouldn’t tell me when the wake was or where he was being buried,” she recounted. “The father paid the funeral home to keep me from participating.”
Despite the efforts to limit her access, Aylin managed to say her final goodbye to her son. She commented on the difficulty of the situation, reflecting, “I was able to see my son for 45 minutes because it was his father’s order. He held the wake and buried him afterward.”
As the investigation continues, authorities are working to determine whether this tragic incident was an unfortunate accident within the home. The loss of such a young life has inevitably sent shockwaves through the community, reflecting the fragile nature of life and the devastating impact of accidents that can occur in a matter of moments.
This tragic circumstance serves as a heartbreaking reminder to parents and caregivers about the potential hazards present in the home, particularly concerning small objects and choking hazards. As Aylin grapples with the aftermath of her loss, her story highlights the profound grief experienced by families in the wake of such an unexpected tragedy.
