The West Jordan Police Department has confirmed an ongoing investigation into an active domestic violence case involving social media personality, Taylor Frankie Paul, and her ex-boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen. The situation has drawn significant attention, particularly as Mortensen provided police with a video allegedly recorded in early to mid-2024, which is now under review.

According to a spokesperson from the West Jordan Police Department, Mortensen initially reached out to law enforcement at the end of February concerning the case. He subsequently spoke with police officers last week. However, the department has yet to schedule an interview with Paul, though they express hope for a discussion in the near future. The spokesperson refrained from sharing specific timelines regarding Mortensen’s encounters with the department or the details of the case.

Amidst the investigation, a source close to Paul has suggested that Mortensen has a history of provoking their interactions, claiming he films her reactions with the intent of damaging her reputation. This has led to assertions that the videos being utilised in the investigation may present a misleading narrative, focusing on Paul while omitting Mortensen’s alleged instigatory actions. PEOPLE magazine has reached out to Mortensen for his input, but he has yet to respond.
Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill announced that his office is aware of the issues at hand, particularly given Paul’s current probation status due to separate domestic violence charges filed against her in 2023. This scrutiny is compounded by another investigation that was opened by the Draper City Police Department, which is also looking into domestic assault allegations between Paul and Mortensen. According to police representatives, both parties have made claims against each other, and contact was made with involved individuals on the 24th and 25th of February.
As part of these ongoing proceedings, the Draper City prosecutor has forwarded pertinent information to the Salt Lake County District Attorney for further examination. Law enforcement officials have indicated that a review of the new allegations is underway, which may have implications for Paul’s existing probation case if new charges are filed.
On 19 March, Mortensen took legal action, seeking a protective order against Paul. They share a two-year-old son, Ever, and a court hearing is scheduled for 7 April to address this order. Past incidents have left a shadow over Paul’s public persona; she was arrested in 2023 following an allegedly violent altercation with Mortensen that led to charges related to assault, criminal mischief, and domestic violence in the presence of a child. Paul ultimately pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, which may be modified or dropped if she adheres to conditions set forth by the court.
In a video released after last year’s incident, Paul was seen engaging in aggressive behaviour toward Mortensen while a child was nearby. The footage sparked outrage and led to significant media coverage, including details documented in a 2023 indictment. Following this incident, a spokesperson for Paul claimed that the video lacked critical context, labelling it a misrepresentation of events intended to deflect from Mortensen’s alleged misconduct.
As investigations continue, the fallout has affected Paul’s obligations within the television industry. ABC recently announced the cancellation of her already-filmed season of The Bachelorette, just days before its anticipated premiere. Following this decision, representatives for Paul expressed gratitude towards the network for allowing her to focus on her family’s safety.
Sources familiar with the situation indicated that the production of the fifth season of the series Mormon Wives has been suspended due to the ongoing legal matters involving Paul. Many cast members reportedly feel uncomfortable working alongside her, prompting a collective pause in filming. Jessi Draper, a cast member, confirmed in a recent podcast that the show remains on hold, stressing the emotional strain experienced by the cast.
As developments in this case continue to unfold, stakeholders and spectators alike await further information regarding the investigations and their potential impact on the individuals involved. The intertwined narratives of domestic discord present a complex situation fraught with allegations and emotional distress, highlighting the ongoing struggle of those affected by domestic violence.
