Chad Gilbert, renowned guitarist and vocalist of the pop-punk band New Found Glory, has provided an update regarding his ongoing battle with cancer, revealing that he recently underwent brain surgery. The 45-year-old musician took to Instagram on March 23 to share this significant moment in his health journey, responding to the challenges posed by a rare form of cancer.

Gilbert’s health issues first surfaced on February 20, shortly after a performance in Nashville. He began experiencing troubling symptoms, including a lack of control over the movements of his left hand, as well as increasing weakness in his left leg, which led to frequent stumbling. Concerned about his condition, he sought medical attention on February 23, when a CT scan revealed the presence of three new tumours in his brain.

Following this alarming diagnosis, Chad underwent successful brain surgery just four days later, on February 27. Sharing his experience, he expressed relief upon regaining function in his left hand almost immediately after the operation. “My recovery has been bumpy at times, but I’m feeling much better now and getting stronger by the day,” he remarked, conveying his gratitude to those who supported both him and his family during this challenging period.
Gilbert’s health issues are part of a broader struggle against metastatic pheochromocytoma, a rare adrenal gland cancer. He received his initial diagnosis in late 2021, and subsequent examinations revealed that the cancer had progressed to his spine and lungs. Just last August, he disclosed that further treatment was necessary due to the discovery of a small spot on his back.
In his Instagram post, Gilbert provided insight into the impact of the latest developments. He quoted his radiation oncologist, who reassuringly described the situation as “not a fatal blow and not the end of your story, just the beginning of a new chapter.” This perspective appears to be a source of optimism for Gilbert as he navigates through this arduous journey.
Alongside his words of encouragement, the guitarist shared intimate glimpses of his hospital stay, including images of himself in bed and engaged in physical therapy. Heartwarming moments were also captured, such as a visit from his wife, Lisa Cimorelli, and a charming note from their four-year-old daughter, Lily, which read: “I love you! You’re the best! See you soon.”
Despite the challenges he faces, Gilbert remains committed to staying positive and looks forward to returning to music and life with renewed passion. He concluded his social media update by addressing his followers, stating that while he may not be able to respond to messages promptly, he is eager to share more stories and music with them once he is feeling fully recovered.
Chad Gilbert’s resilience in the face of adversity serves as an inspiring reminder of perseverance. As members of the music community and fans rally around him, his journey resonates deeply, highlighting the importance of support, love, and hope during challenging times. As he continues to move forward in his recovery, many will be watching closely, eager to see how he channels his experiences into his art in the future.
