LaGuardia Airport in New York City is set to resume operations at 2 PM local time on Monday, March 23, following a tragic incident that resulted in the deaths of two pilots and left over 40 passengers injured. The airport had been closed since late Sunday night after a Jazz Aviation flight, operating on behalf of Air Canada, collided with a Port Authority vehicle on the runway.

The crash occurred at approximately 11:40 PM on March 22 as flight AC8646, which was travelling from Montreal to New York, was preparing to land on Runway 4. At that moment, a Port Authority Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting truck was crossing the airstrip in response to an unrelated emergency, leading to the catastrophic incident.
In the wake of the accident, LaGuardia Airport announced its closure to facilitate a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision. “Due to [an] emergency LaGuardia Airport is closed,” the airport stated via social media, advising passengers to check with airlines for the latest information.
