### Tragedy at LaGuardia: Flight Attendant Ejected in Crash Survives, But Two Lives Lost

A tragic incident at LaGuardia Airport in New York City has resulted in the deaths of two crew members and injuries to over 40 others. The crash occurred on March 22 when a Jazz Aviation flight, operating on behalf of Air Canada, collided with a Port Authority fire truck on the runway.
Among the injured was flight attendant Solange Tremblay, who experienced a remarkable survival against overwhelming odds. Her daughter, Sarah Lépine, recounted how her mother was ejected nearly 100 metres from the aircraft during the collision. According to Lépine, Tremblay was seated behind the pilots when the impact occurred and was still strapped into her seat when emergency responders located her.
In an interview with Quebec’s TVA News, Lépine described the harrowing experience and expressed her gratitude for her mother’s survival. “It’s a complete miracle,” she stated. “They found her, and she was still strapped into her seat. She had a guardian angel watching over her. It could have been much worse.” Despite sustaining multiple bone fractures and a broken leg, Tremblay is currently in hospital and is expected to undergo surgery.
The catastrophic event unfolded while Jazz Aviation flight 8646 was landing after a journey from Montreal. As the aircraft touched down on runway 4, it struck a rescue truck that was reportedly responding to a separate incident involving a United Airlines flight. The fire truck had been called to investigate an odour detected within the United aircraft.
Following the collision, LaGuardia Airport activated emergency response protocols and temporarily closed operations to facilitate both the response and the investigation. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the fire truck had received permission from air traffic control to cross the runway. Initial audio recordings indicate a sudden urgency from one controller, who shouted for the truck to stop just moments before the crash.
At the time of the accident, there were 72 passengers and four crew members on board the Air Canada flight. Sadly, the pilot and co-pilot were pronounced dead at the scene, with the Port Authority confirming their identities shortly thereafter.
The aftermath of the crash saw 41 individuals transported to various medical facilities. Out of these, 39 were passengers from the flight while two were officers from the fire department. Most of those injured have since been released from hospital care.
In a poignant statement, Air Canada expressed their sorrow at the loss of their staff members, stating, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of two Jazz employees, and our deepest condolences go out to the entire Jazz community and their families.” While the airline has refrained from confirming the exact number of injuries or additional fatalities, they remain steadfast in supporting the families of those involved.
