**Survivor of Fatal Cybertruck Crash Files Lawsuit Against Tesla**

A young man who survived a tragic Cybertruck accident in November 2024 is taking legal action against Tesla, alleging that a design flaw in the vehicle contributed to the fatalities of his three friends. The lawsuit was filed in Alameda County, California, and claims that the vehicle’s electronic door system prevented escape from the burning Cybertruck after it struck a tree.


Jordan Miller, who was injured in the incident, was travelling with friends Soren Dixon, Jack Nelson, and Krysta Tsukahara when the crash occurred. The group had returned home for the Thanksgiving holiday when the accident took place in Piedmont, California, at approximately 3 a.m. The crash ultimately claimed the lives of Dixon, 19, Nelson, 20, and Tsukahara, 19.
According to the legal complaint, the Cybertruck caught fire almost immediately after the collision, engulfing the vehicle in flames that reportedly reached heights of nearly 10 feet. Despite a friend who was following the group arriving promptly at the scene, he was unable to open the vehicle’s doors. In a desperate attempt to rescue Miller, he broke the front window with a nearby tree branch and managed to pull him out; however, he could not reach the other three occupants.
Miller’s legal representatives argue that the Cybertruck’s lack of mechanical door handles constitutes a critical design flaw. Instead of conventional handles, the vehicle is equipped with electronic buttons that rely on the car’s low-voltage electrical system. Annie Wu, one of Miller’s attorneys, expressed incredulity at the situation, stating, “A friend was right there within seconds… He couldn’t open the doors. No handles. The buttons weren’t working.” She further emphasised that Miller’s predicament was a direct result of the vehicle’s flawed design.
The lawsuit has also named the estate of Soren Dixon and Charles Patterson, a relative of Dixon who owned the Cybertruck, as defendants alongside Tesla. Reports indicate that Dixon was under the influence at the time of the crash, with alcohol and cocaine detected in his system. His blood alcohol level was recorded at 0.195%, significantly higher than the legal limit.
Miller suffered extensive injuries in the collision, including severe burns, damage to his airways, and life-threatening conditions that required the removal of nearly half of his colon. He spent five days in a coma and has since been dealing with multiple broken vertebrae. His legal team has cited ongoing emotional and psychological trauma resulting from the incident as part of the damages they seek.
The claims made against Tesla encompass various accusations, including negligence, design defects, and failure to adequately warn customers of potential dangers associated with the vehicle. The attorneys assert that Tesla has been aware of the risks posed by the door design for over a decade. Further claims of negligence are directed at both Patterson and Dixon’s estate regarding the allowance of an impaired driver to operate the vehicle.
In a statement supporting the lawsuit, attorney Anthony L. Label stressed the responsibility of vehicle manufacturers to ensure safety in their designs. He commented, “When you design a vehicle with no mechanical way to open the doors from the outside, you are betting the electronics will work in every scenario, including a high-speed crash followed by a fire.”
Tesla has responded to the claims in court filings, asserting that the Cybertruck meets federal safety standards. The company has also defended its actions, indicating that it has adequately informed customers about the relevant risks connected with using its vehicles.
As the lawsuit progresses, the implications for both the survivor and the car manufacturer remain to be seen. The tragic loss of life and the injuries sustained have raised significant safety concerns about the design of electric vehicles, particularly in emergency situations where electronic systems may fail.
