Texas Mom of 2 Internally Decapitated in Hit-and-Run While Crossing Road, as Driver Remains at Large

In a tragic incident on March 12, 39-year-old Lolita Moore was critically injured in a hit-and-run accident while crossing a road at a Houston intersection. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office reported that Moore suffered severe injuries, later described by her family as an internal decapitation.

Moore was in the process of returning home after shopping at a local grocery store when the accident occurred. According to her sister, Jasmine Bates, the incident happened at approximately 8 p.m. at the crossroads of FM 1960 and Cypress Station Road. It is believed that Moore tripped over her shoe and fell just moments before being struck by the vehicle.

Following the collision, Moore was rushed to the hospital where medical personnel discovered the extent of her injuries. As outlined by Bates, doctors informed the family that Moore’s skull had become disconnected from her spinal column, a rare and life-threatening condition termed internal decapitation. “Her skull is disconnected from her neck and her spine,” Bates explained, noting that medical professionals have been working to stabilise Moore’s head with a brace. She has also undergone a tracheostomy in an attempt to assist her breathing.

Bates expressed the family’s distress over the situation, revealing that despite numerous surgeries, Moore has not regained full consciousness. “Sometimes, she’s been able to flicker her eyes,” Bates recounted, emphasising the uncertainty and heartache they are facing as they await signs of recovery.

The driver responsible for the incident, believed to have been operating a black Honda CR-V, fled the scene immediately after the crash. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office has indicated their efforts to gather surveillance footage from the area in hopes of identifying the individual who left Moore behind in her time of need.

Moore, who is the eldest among eight siblings, is a mother to two daughters aged 12 and 19. Their care has shifted to another sister, Sermon Swafford. “She’s in a situation that she’s still fighting for her life,” Swafford explained, reflecting on the ripple effect of the tragedy within the family. “That not only changed her life, but everybody’s that is around her. Her child was expecting to go home to her that day.”

The Moore family has been vocal in their plea for the driver to come forward. Bates expressed her hope that the individual responsible would take responsibility for their actions. “She deserves that much,” Bates said, emphasising that Moore is not just a victim; she is also a mother, sister, daughter, and aunt.

Furthermore, the family has voiced their frustration at the driver’s decision to leave the scene. “How would you want bystanders to respond if that had been your child or you or someone very close to you?” Bates pondered. The emotional toll on her family has been significant, and their calls for justice and accountability continue to resonate.

To assist with Moore’s medical expenses during this challenging time, her family has initiated a GoFundMe campaign. Contributions will go directly towards her recovery and any associated costs as she faces the lengthy road ahead.
