An official from the U.S. Mint revealed that it is her belief that the president has personally reviewed and endorsed the designs for the coin.

The design was given the green light this week by the Commission of Fine Arts, a federal body that plays a crucial role in advising the president on matters pertaining to national symbols and the arts. Notably, the commission has undergone substantial changes since President Trump appointed new members in January. The current team includes a mix of individuals, including a former deputy Cabinet secretary from Trump’s earlier term, along with James McCrery, who was responsible for the design of the White House ballroom.
At a meeting held on March 19, the commission unanimously approved the design for the coin, which will depict President Trump leaning forward on his fists at his desk on one side, and an eagle beside the iconic Liberty Bell on the reverse. McCrery, serving as the vice chair of the commission, advocated for the coin to be as large as possible, suggesting a diameter of up to three inches. He remarked, “I think the president likes big things,” indicating a keen desire to resonate with Trump’s preferences.
Another commissioner, Chamberlain Harris, who works in Oval Office operations, echoed this sentiment, emphasising that a larger coin would likely align with the president’s tastes. Meghan Sullivan, the acting chief of the office of design management at the U.S. Mint, stated that the anticipated valuation of the coin would likely reach hundreds of dollars, hinting at its potential collectible status. She mentioned that Trump had already examined the designs, further solidifying the administration’s involvement in the project.
In discussions about the visual representation of the president on the coin, Harris expressed the importance of ensuring that Trump has seen and approved the design before it is finalised. “I know he reviews a lot of different images and is very particular about what is put out there about him,” she noted, reinforcing the careful consideration going into the project.
The proposed image for the coin derives from a photograph captured by Daniel Torok, a White House photographer. This photograph is part of the “American Presidents” exhibit at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery in Washington, where it replaces previous references to Trump’s impeachments following a recent revision of the gallery’s content.
In recent months, Trump’s image has been prominent across various federal agencies, with significant banners being displayed at the Departments of Agriculture, Labour, and Justice. Furthermore, notable institutions such as the John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts and the U.S. Institute of Peace have borne Trump’s name as part of their renaming.

Trump.”
