Tragic Incident at Connecticut Landscaping Plant Claims Life of Worker

A 32-year-old man tragically lost his life after becoming trapped in a gravel machine at a landscaping facility in Connecticut. The incident occurred on Thursday, 19th March, at the Modern Materials Corporation located on State Street in Hamden.

Emergency services received a call shortly before 7:30 a.m. reporting that a man had gone into cardiac arrest while stuck within the machine. Upon arrival, fire crews discovered the individual had suffered critical injuries and was in need of immediate medical assistance. Despite their efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to authorities, the victim’s death was attributed to traumatic asphyxiation, a condition leading to suffocation caused by external pressure on the body. It was reported that he was operating the industrial gravel machine at the time of the unfortunate incident. Chief Shelly Carter of the Hamden Fire Department confirmed that resuscitation attempts were made but ultimately proved unsuccessful.

Following the incident, preliminary investigations conducted by the Hamden Police Department have not suggested any foul play or negligence involving third parties. Police officials stated, “At this time, preliminary investigation does not indicate any evidence of malice or criminal wrongdoing.”

The man’s identity has not been publicly disclosed at this stage, as authorities work to notify his next of kin. Meanwhile, the Hamden Police and Fire Departments have undertaken further inquiries into the situation.

Additionally, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has been informed and will carry out its own investigation to determine compliance with safety regulations at the site. OSHA’s involvement is routine in incidents where workplace safety may have been compromised.

The company, Modern Materials Corporation, along with local police and fire departments, were not immediately available for comment regarding the incident, raising concerns over workplace safety protocols within industrial settings.
