The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that Duggar has been charged with four counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor and four counts of second-degree false imprisonment. These charges arose after a detailed investigation that included a search of Duggar’s residence. Although specific details surrounding these charges remain undisclosed, officials indicated that they are separate from another serious allegation he is facing in Florida, which involves the lewd and lascivious molestation of a child under the age of 12.
The situation escalated when a 14-year-old girl reported to authorities in Arkansas that Duggar had assaulted her in 2020 when she was only nine years old while on holiday in Panama City Beach, Florida. According to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), Duggar allegedly engaged in inappropriate conduct by asking the girl to sit on his lap, subsequently asking her to move closer on the couch under a blanket, where he reportedly touched her inappropriately.
Following the girl’s report, Arkansas police contacted Florida authorities, leading to an arrest warrant being issued for Duggar. Subsequently, he was taken into custody and was seen in court on March 20, where he waived his extradition rights. Currently held without bail at the Washington County Detention Center, he is poised to be sent to Florida for a court appearance related to the sexual assault charge.
Joseph Duggar’s legal troubles come against a backdrop of familial scrutiny and scandal.
