A small dog, affectionately named Paddy, is currently receiving medical treatment after being discovered in grave condition in East Haven, Connecticut. On March 17, two girls found Paddy abandoned near a Home Depot and subsequently brought him to the East Haven Animal Shelter, where staff soon realised the extent of his distress.

The animal shelter reported that Paddy suffered from severe matting that posed significant health risks. As described in a Facebook update, the matting on one of Paddy’s legs had become so severe that it had penetrated the skin and muscle, exposing bone. The shelter shared harrowing images revealing the dog’s painful state, with his leg bleeding and matted fur tightly wrapped around his paw. Moreover, large clumps of dirty, matted fur had to be removed to prevent further complications.
In light of the severity of his injuries, veterinary professionals determined that amputation of Paddy’s affected foot would be necessary due to a serious infection associated with the matting. Currently, he is under close watch at Branford Veterinary Hospital, where veterinarians are monitoring his condition ahead of the planned surgery.

The East Haven Animal Shelter expressed their concern over the circumstances leading to Paddy’s suffering. They noted that such extreme cases of matting do not develop in a short period, indicating that the dog may have endured prolonged agony without assistance prior to his rescue.
To aid in the investigation surrounding Paddy’s abandonment and medical condition, the nonprofit organisation Desmond’s Army has stepped in to offer a substantial reward. A reward of $5,000 is being provided for any information that leads to an arrest in connection with Paddy’s treatment and the circumstances of his neglect.

In their social media outreach, the East Haven Animal Shelter urged anyone who may have information about Paddy’s past to reach out. They are appealing to the public for any insights into how he ended up in such a dire state. The shelter can be contacted at (203) 468-3249.
Amidst the distressing details of his plight, there is a ray of hope for Paddy. The shelter has committed to providing updates on his recovery journey, assuring the community that they will keep everyone informed as his condition improves.
In addition to seeking information, the East Haven Animal Shelter is also encouraging community members to contribute towards Paddy’s medical costs. Donations can be made directly to the shelter or via the Branford Veterinary Hospital, which is currently managing Paddy’s care.
Officials hope that as Paddy begins his recovery, he will soon receive the love and care he deserves. This unfortunate case has highlighted the importance of animal welfare and the need for vigilance in protecting vulnerable creatures in our communities. Paddy’s story is not only significant for his health battle but also serves as a call for action against animal neglect and abandonment.
