Maddie Ziegler Did 3 Weeks of ‘Ballet Boot Camp’ to Train for “Pretty Lethal ”(Exclusive)

Maddie Ziegler, known for her role on the reality show “Dance Moms,” has returned to her dance roots with a new project, the action thriller “Pretty Lethal.” The film, which is set to premiere on 25th March 2026 on Amazon Prime Video, showcases Ziegler as part of a ballet troupe facing unexpected challenges during a competition.

During the recent SXSW Film & TV Festival held in Austin, Texas, Ziegler opened up about her preparation for the role while attending the premiere of the movie. She explained that the experience of filming in Budapest was significantly enhanced by a rigorous boot camp that lasted three weeks. This intensive period included both ballet and stunt rehearsals, designed to equip the cast with the necessary skills for their roles.

Ziegler was joined by a talented ensemble cast, including Lana Condor, Avantika, Millicent Simmonds, and Iris Apatow, all portraying aspiring ballerinas in the same troupe. The film’s narrative revolves around the troupe’s bus breaking down en route to a competition, leading them to seek refuge at a dubious roadside inn run by an ex-ballet star, played by Uma Thurman.

Touching on the camaraderie developed amongst the cast, Ziegler remarked that they quickly formed a bond upon arriving in Budapest. Living together in the same hotel, the group became like a family: “We instantly clicked and we were like, ‘Oh, we’re family’. It was just really special and cool, and we still keep in touch every day,” she shared.

Avantika, another member of the cast, echoed Ziegler’s sentiments about the boot camp experience. As someone who has a background in dance, she was eager to return to her roots. “I like to joke that I got back into ballet with Maddie,” she said. Their shared experience during the boot camp allowed them to reconnect with their passion for dance, despite some initial trepidation regarding their skills post-training.

“I showed up and I was like, ‘I’m really rusty,’ and she was like, ‘Me too,'” Avantika added. The supportive environment fostered by the cast allowed their love for ballet to flourish anew. This mutual encouragement has been a significant part of the filming experience, with Ziegler’s performance inspiring her co-stars.

Director Vicky Jewson has praised Ziegler’s contribution to the film, highlighting her dance background as a tremendous asset. “To have someone of her talent and with that incredible dance background was a gift to the movie,” Jewson stated. The director believes that Ziegler brought a “raw, natural style” to her character, making her performance stand out.

Ziegler’s career has evolved significantly since her days on “Dance Moms” from 2006 to 2011. Along with guest appearances on shows like “Dancing with the Stars,” she has also featured prominently in music videos, notably Sia’s “Chandelier” and “Elastic Heart.” Additionally, she showcased her acting abilities in 2021’s “West Side Story” and the forthcoming “My Old Ass” set to release next year.
