At the event, which took place on 17 March, the 33-year-old singer reflected on her journey of recovery and how it has influenced her relationship with food. She remarked, “There was a time in my life when I wouldn’t celebrate my birthdays with cakes, and so to have a birthday cake recipe in my cookbook is so meaningful and has been so rewarding.”

Lovato described her cookbook, titled *One Plate at a Time: Recipes for Finding Freedom with Food*, as a celebration of her progress. She noted that creating the book has allowed her to acknowledge how far she has come in addressing her eating disorder.
In sharing her experiences, she recounted the overwhelming emotions she would feel while grocery shopping, stating, “I used to step foot into a grocery store and break down into tears because I was so overwhelmed by all of the food.” However, Lovato remarked on her significant progress: “Now, I’m not only going into grocery stores and shopping for myself, but I’m also cooking the meals that I’m making, and that’s a huge win for me.”
The cookbook is set to feature over 80 recipes, including family favourites such as spaghetti bolognese, Chicken Milanese with Arugula Salad, and Foolproof Pulled Pork. Lovato’s enthusiasm for her culinary creations is evident as she shares, “There are so many great recipes in this book. I’m so proud of them all.”
Lovato explained that her relationship with cooking began to shift about five years into her recovery when she turned 30. She reminisced about a pivotal moment when she first cooked spaghetti squash, turning it into a salad with friends. “That was the first recipe that I cooked with friends where I was like, ‘Wow, this is actually really fun,’” she recalled.
During her conversation, Lovato emphasised her goal of making the cookbook accessible to those who may have faced similar challenges with food. She stated, “I wanted to create a cookbook that was for people who may have had disordered eating in the past or are just intimidated to step foot into the kitchen for the first time.”
In a previous social media post announcing the upcoming release of her cookbook, Lovato highlighted that her culinary journey has been instrumental in her healing process. She explained, “This book is filled with simple, comforting recipes that have allowed me to reconnect with myself and find both freedom and joy in my kitchen – feelings I never thought I could experience.”
Lovato further emphasised that cooking has evolved into an “act of love and kindness” towards herself and those around her. She hopes that her cookbook will inspire others to find comfort and joy in their culinary endeavours, extending the same feelings to homes far and wide.
As Lovato prepares for the launch of *One Plate at a Time*, she continues to be a source of inspiration for many, proving that the act of cooking can serve to nurture both body and spirit.
