Reba McEntire recently commemorated the 35th anniversary of a tragic event that profoundly impacted her life, the 1991 plane crash that claimed the lives of eight of her band members and crew. On 16 March 2023, the country music legend made a generous contribution to MusiCares, an organisation dedicated to supporting music professionals in need, to honour the memory of those lost in the disaster.

In a heartfelt statement, McEntire reflected on the significance of the date, saying, “Thirty-five years ago today, Heaven gained some very talented angels.” This poignant tribute is a reminder of the profound loss suffered by not only McEntire but also the entire country music community. Among those who perished in the crash were Chris Austin, Kirk Cappello, Joey Cigainero, Paula Kaye Evans, Jim Hammon, Terry Jackson, Tony Saputo, and Michael Thomas.
Following a concert in San Diego, McEntire and her stylist, along with her then-husband and manager Narvel Blackstock, were due to take a different flight the following day. The tragedy left an indelible mark on McEntire, who described her band and crew as “dear friends” with whom she shared her music and experiences on the road. “Our band and crew that were with us for way too short a time were more than co-workers,” she noted.
By supporting MusiCares, McEntire aims to contribute to an essential resource for many in the music profession who face challenges, both personal and financial. “In their memory, we’re honoured to support MusiCares, an organisation that takes care of the people who take care of the music,” she explained. McEntire expressed hope that her donation would assist musicians and their families in times of need, highlighting her ongoing commitment to the music community.

Nearly a year after the plane crash, McEntire released her best-selling album, *For My Broken Heart*, which was dedicated to the victims.
