Actress Lisa Rinna has opened up about a regrettable cosmetic procedure that left her feeling “humiliated.” In her recently released memoir, *You Better Believe I’m Gonna Talk About It*, Rinna shares her experience with SKINVIVE, a skin injectable she underwent in April 2024, which led to unforeseen and distressing results.

Rinna, who is known for her role in *The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills*, described the aftermath of the procedure, which took place shortly before the Fashion Trust Awards in Beverly Hills. According to the actress, the SKINVIVE injections caused her cheeks to swell dramatically, making her appearance markedly different. The procedure, intended to enhance skin texture without adding volume, did not meet Rinna’s expectations.
In her memoir, Rinna recounted the moment she decided to try SKINVIVE after visiting an esthetician for Botox treatment. The professional suggested the new product, claiming it would provide a “glow” without increasing facial volume. Trusting the recommendation, Rinna agreed to the injections. However, she was soon left disheartened by the results. “All of a sudden, my cheeks were like a squirrel gathering nuts,” she recalled, speculating that she may have had an allergic reaction.
Compounding her distress was the fact that she had also recently received Botox in her jaw to address TMJ issues. Rinna observed that the combination of the treatments altered her appearance in an unsettling way. “The Botox made my jawline atrophy, and SKINVIVE gave me volume – it made me look freakish,” she wrote.
Attending the Fashion Trust Awards became a public scrutiny episode for the actress. After photographs of her appeared online, social media influencers made videos comparing her previous looks with her altered appearance, often in a disparaging manner. Rinna described the experience as “traumatising,” acknowledging the harsh public reaction. “I was all over TikTok and every doctor’s site,” she lamented.
Realising that the SKINVIVE effects needed to be reversed, Rinna took swift action. Fortunately, she revealed that the reversal procedure restored her face to its normal appearance within days. “Oh my God. It was really humiliating because I knew that it looked terrible,” she expressed, although she added that her years of experience in the industry had equipped her with resilience.
In a subsequent interview with *PEOPLE*, Rinna spoke candidly about the pressures of aesthetic perfection in the modern age. “Some things work out, and some things don’t,” she stated, reflecting on the myriad treatments available today. While she appreciates advancements in cosmetic procedures, she cautioned against the pursuit of an unattainable ideal.
Rinna expressed concern over the societal pressure to maintain a perfect appearance, particularly among younger individuals. “There is no such thing as perfection,” she stated. “If you’re chasing that, you’ll always be unhappy.” This message resonates with her perspectives on self-acceptance, particularly as she navigates the complexities of ageing in the public eye.
*You Better Believe I’m Gonna Talk About It* is currently available for purchase, and Rinna hopes her candid disclosures will prompt broader discussions about beauty standards and personal expectations. As she continues to share her journey, the actress remains dedicated to encouraging others to embrace authenticity over flawless appearances.
