Tragedy has struck the Bingham Canyon Mine in Utah, as a contracted worker, Brian Cameli, tragically lost his life following an accident involving heavy machinery. The 37-year-old was performing duties within a maintenance shop at the site operated by Rio Tinto when a large boom inadvertently collapsed, resulting in fatal injuries.

The incident occurred on Thursday, 12 March, as reported by the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Colleagues of Cameli promptly administered first aid before emergency responders arrived. Despite their swift actions and the efforts of local authorities, including the Herriman Police Department, Unified Fire Authority, and the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner, Cameli was pronounced dead at the scene.
This incident marks a somber milestone, accounting for the fifth mining fatality in the United States this year, with three of those fatalities being linked to machinery accidents, as indicated by the Mine Safety and Health Administration.
