In a strategic move to bolster its brand presence, Six Flags has appointed NFL star Travis Kelce as its brand ambassador and marketing partner. The announcement came on Thursday, 12 March, marking an exciting partnership between the Kansas City Chiefs tight end and North America’s largest regional amusement park operator.

Kelce, a 36-year-old Ohio native, has fond memories of visiting amusement parks during his childhood, particularly Cedar Point in Sandusky, which is now part of the Six Flags Entertainment Corporation. In a press release, he shared his enthusiasm about collaborating with the company, stating, “Six Flags parks were a hallmark of my childhood and the scene of some of my most fun and cherished memories.” He expressed eagerness to help enhance the brand’s attractions and engage a new generation of visitors.

As part of his new role, Kelce will engage with a variety of media platforms, including social media, streaming services, and in-park promotions, to help promote Six Flags’ diverse range of parks. John Reilly, the company’s president and CEO, emphasised that Kelce’s longstanding fandom of Six Flags makes him an ideal ambassador for the brand. He noted, “His fun-loving personality, commitment to excellence, and passion for the game have contributed to three Super Bowl titles on the field.”
In October, it was reported that Kelce, alongside a group of notable business partners, had invested in the theme park company through New York City-based investment firm JANA Partners. This partnership allows them to hold about 9% of the economic interest in Six Flags Entertainment Corporation.
During an episode of the podcast New Heights, which he co-hosts with his brother Jason, Kelce reminisced about his experiences at Cedar Point, a park often hailed as the ultimate destination for roller coaster enthusiasts. He passionately affirmed that Cedar Point is not only the best in the United States but arguably holds a prestigious status globally, boasting multiple record-breaking roller coasters.
However, the announcement of Kelce’s partnership comes amid challenging times for Six Flags. The company has recently disclosed plans to divest from seven of its parks across the U.S. and Canada to focus on their more profitable locations. This decision follows significant financial difficulties that have prompted the organisation to reassess its operational strategies.
The parks set for sale include Michigan’s Adventure in Muskegon, Schlitterbahn Waterpark in Galveston, Six Flags Great Escape in Queensbury, Six Flags La Ronde in Montreal, Six Flags St. Louis in Missouri, Valleyfair in Minneapolis, and Worlds of Fun in Kansas City. Six Flags has assured that all seven properties will continue to operate normally through the 2026 season during this transition.
EPR Properties, a real estate investment trust based in Kansas City, is set to acquire these parks, with operational management to be handled by Enchanted Parks for the six U.S. locations and La Rone Operations, Inc. for the Canadian park. This strategic realignment appears to be a critical step for Six Flags in maintaining its market presence while seeking to improve its financial performance.
The partnership with Kelce not only enhances Six Flags’ visibility but also taps into the spirit of nostalgia associated with amusement parks. Kelce’s lively personality and experiences could resonate with both long-time fans and newcomers alike, offering a fresh perspective on the exciting offerings at Six Flags parks.
As Six Flags navigates this transitional phase, the performance of this strategic partnership could play a vital role in re-establishing the brand’s appeal and profitability in the competitive amusement park landscape.
