A man in Texas has remarkably survived after his vehicle overturned and plummeted 200 feet down a rocky canyon, reportedly due to a blown tyre. The incident occurred on the morning of March 9 at Palo Duro Canyon State Park, where emergency services were alerted after reports of a man displaying signs of injury.

Around 11:50 AM local time, staff members at the park received a call concerning an injured individual near the Mack Dick Pavilion. Upon arrival, they discovered the man with a swollen, black eye. He informed them that he had a flat tyre, but initially, no vehicle could be located in the vicinity.

Roughly ten minutes later, park personnel noticed a car lying upside down at the base of the canyon, specifically below “Big Hill,” situated east of Park Road 5. This discovery prompted the activation of multiple state agencies to assist in the rescue and recovery efforts.

Investigators later established that the man’s vehicle had veered off the road and rolled down the canyon the previous evening. The man himself recounted that he managed to walk from his car to the pavilion early that morning, despite the harrowing fall.
Emergency responders immediately took the injured man to Northwest Texas Hospital for medical evaluation. In addition to his evident injuries, authorities suspect he may be suffering from a concussion and broken ribs.
Rescue teams faced the added challenge of retrieving the wrecked vehicle from the steep terrain. They employed a high angle ropes system to securely lower and attach a cable to the car, enabling it to be safely extracted by Sierra/Canyon Towing.
As of now, the investigation into the incident is still underway, with officials working to uncover further details surrounding the circumstances that led to the accident.
The event has drawn attention not only due to the man’s survival but also to the potential dangers posed by driving in rugged areas, particularly when mechanical issues arise. This incident serves as a stark reminder for motorists to ensure their vehicles are in good condition before venturing into remote locations.
Authorities continue to encourage visitors to Palo Duro Canyon State Park to exercise caution and remain aware of their surroundings, especially in areas prone to abrupt changes in terrain. As the park is a popular destination for hiking and sightseeing, heightened vigilance can help prevent accidents in the future.
Residents and visitors alike are urged to stay updated as more information becomes available regarding the ongoing investigation. The quick actions of park staff and emergency responders played a crucial role in ensuring the man’s safety and medical care.
