Caroline Lusk, a popular TikTok influencer with a following of two million, has revealed her struggles with hearing loss at the young age of 23. In a candid video shared on February 22, Lusk opened up about receiving a formal diagnosis that brought unexpected news regarding her condition.

After consulting a hearing specialist, Lusk learned that she is experiencing “significant, severe, and, in some frequencies, profound hearing loss.” Initially believing she might have fared well during the hearing tests, she was surprised to discover the extent of her hearing difficulties, which were far worse than she had anticipated.
In her TikTok updates, Lusk described the hearing loss spectrum, which ranges from normal to profound deafness, stating, “I have significant, severe and, in some frequencies, profound hearing loss, which is bad.” The revelation has prompted her to reflect on her daily life and the challenges she has faced without knowing the extent of her condition.
Lusk noted the peculiar feeling of grappling with a hearing problem at such a formative age, sharing her astonishment at having navigated the world while struggling with her abilities. “It really is such a testament to what your body can do and your body’s ability to acclimate and survive,” she remarked, highlighting her resilience in the face of adversity.
The influencer indicated that her left ear is more severely impacted than her right, prompting her to schedule an MRI for precautionary reasons. She explained that a significant difference in hearing loss between ears can sometimes suggest the presence of a tumour, although she reassured her followers that this scenario was unlikely to be a cause for concern, even if a tumour were present.
While Lusk currently uses hearing aids, she has acknowledged that her condition may necessitate a cochlear implant in the future as her hearing is expected to deteriorate further over time. Despite her willingness to share her journey, she is still processing her emotions surrounding the diagnosis and is uncertain about how much more she will reveal regarding her hearing aids.
In her video, she admitted to initially hesitating to discuss her situation publicly. However, upon receiving her diagnosis, she dedicated several hours to researching others in similar circumstances on social media, seeking knowledge and comfort from those who had faced comparable challenges. “I was just searching for relatability and searching for somebody that made me feel less alone in that,” she explained, emphasising the importance of community support during difficult times.
