A couple from Kentucky have recently welcomed quadruplets, bringing incredible joy to their family after enduring several pregnancy losses. Megan and Erich Black, who have been married since New Year’s Eve six years ago, are now proud parents of five young girls, including their three-year-old daughter Emyrson.

The quartet, which includes baby girls named Elly, Edyn, Dani, and Lucy, was born on February 6 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati. Megan, now 40 years old, expressed her profound gratitude for the new arrivals, especially after recently experiencing a miscarriage just two months prior to conceiving the quadruplets.
“Now our home is full of five rainbow babies in total — and we couldn’t be luckier,” Megan stated, highlighting the joy of having a larger family despite the previous hardships. Erich, 46, a full-time nursing student, had long dreamed of having biological children, wishing to share a familial resemblance since he was adopted as a baby.
The couple faced numerous challenges leading up to this momentous occasion. Their journey towards parenthood was fraught with difficulties, as they encountered struggles both before and after the birth of Emyrson. Megan reflected on their decision to try for another child after experiencing the heartache of miscarriage. “Approaching my 40th birthday and on the heels of the miscarriage, we said we’d try one more month,” she recounted. “And if we weren’t successful, we would find our happiness as a family of three.”
When they learned about their pregnancy, the news was initially a mix of delight and anxiety. A routine ultrasound appointment revealed the surprising development that they were expecting four children, an overwhelming prospect given the challenges they faced in trying to conceive. “We didn’t think it could be possible. Trying to have just one baby was hard enough… How could there be four?” Megan recalled.
With the high-risk nature of the pregnancy, Megan was hospitalised for nearly 70 days due to preterm labour and careful monitoring of her condition. After the birth of the preterm babies, she faced a period of recovery from a cesarean section while making daily visits to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) to be with her daughters. “It is hard not to be able to hold your baby whenever you want or live a normal life soaking in newborn snuggles,” said Megan. Despite being able to hold her babies, she found the experience complicated by the medical equipment required for their care.
Due to her age and the specifics of their situation, the transition has been particularly challenging for their eldest daughter, Emyrson, who is not yet permitted in the NICU. However, the family remains hopeful as they see their daughters flourishing and meeting developmental milestones. Although the family is uncertain about when the newborns will be able to return home, they are eagerly counting down the days.
To assist the family during this critical time, loved ones have launched a GoFundMe campaign aimed at providing financial support for baby necessities and medical needs. As of mid-March 2023, the fundraiser had successfully raised nearly £20,000. The fundraiser’s organiser shared enthusiasm for giving back to the couple, noting, “Erich and Megan have always selflessly been there for others. Now it’s our turn to show up for them in this moment of both excitement and need.”
Looking ahead, Megan expresses her anticipation for daily family life filled with the love and laughter of their five daughters. “We cannot wait to see Emyrson as a big sister and for all the girls to grow up together and be the best of friends,” she added. The Black family remains hopeful and excited for the future, eager to create lasting memories together as they navigate their new reality as a family of seven.
