Towle, who was diagnosed with this aggressive cancer at the young age of 23, candidly shared her anxieties and hopes with her followers on TikTok. In a poignant video posted on 4 March, she admitted to feeling a sense of dread prior to receiving the results, despite a glimmer of hope that her anxiety was simply influencing her thoughts. Regrettably, her fears were confirmed as she detailed the findings: “Everything has increased in size,” she lamented, explaining that not only had the tumours in her liver grown, but certain lymph nodes as well. Additionally, she shared that her spleen had also enlarged and that she was experiencing ascites—fluid buildup in the abdomen.
Ascites, as described by the Cleveland Clinic, is an alarming sign that can indicate worsening health conditions. This development is particularly concerning for Towle, who had previously undergone surgical placement of a hepatic pump. This device aims to administer high doses of chemotherapy directly to the liver in an attempt to combat the cancerous cells. Definitely not the news I was hoping for, but I had a feeling.”
